It's a pity though. ((
Not that I like dissappointing people but... It seems to be just part of the robe actually...Dark_Ansem wrote...
maybe there are limited physics in this game, like in NwN.

Anyway, this is from the "What do we know so far"-thread:
No bowstrings, cloaks, or horses. [David Gaider - 11:31] NEW - 09/09
Which hopefully is enough to put this to rest.

Flemeth's hair looks pretty dynamic too. in any case, if we get something like this

it could be a good start. part of the robe or not.

Tricky to animate, I'll wager - flapping cloaks that is. Tricky in battle.
A lot of games do it. It can't be that hard.

I thought Morrigan in particular would have looked very good wearing a cloak.

- DA2 will be in stores March 8th. It will need to finalized most likely a month before that so it can be packaged and shipped to the retailers. Feature lock will occur at least one month before that. That means DA2 has about 3.5 months left of development time. Asking for a feature 3.5 months before feature lock is not getting it in early.
- This is not a trivial request. You would need multiple colours and textures and sizes for the cloaks, in case you want to put them on any of your non-human companions -- but that is only the beginning. The massively time consuming part about adding them into the game involves making sure cloaks play nice with all the armour styles, hair styles, and animations. Some of the armour styles might have shoulders that clip through, some of the hair styles might clip through, some of the weapons or casting animations or combat maneuvers might clip through. All of these would have to be re-adjusted to accomodate cloaks.
- Yes cloaks are doable. That's not the question. The question is what other artist-resource intense feature are you willing to give up to have BioWare animators add them in to the game?

How about we vote for cloaks to be an add on later as DLC. Like the armors in ME 2?Alodar wrote...

Voting would imply a democracy -- which game development decidedly isn't. However if you're letting BioWare know you would like to see a cloak DLC, I'm curious -- how much would you be willing to pay for DLC that contained nothing but cloaks (keeping in mind all the work that would have to go in including a GUI change for a cloak slot)?

From my experience in marketing to the prices we have seen in the ME 2 DLC for weapons. It would depend on the amount of cloaks and the quality plus the attachments which came with them. Now say they are just clothing with some affects on your character. I would say maybe a 3 dollar investment. Now if bioware decided to go a different route and make a character base only cloaks for you and your party members. An example of this is the prank day DLC. Where each prank was for the pacific companion. Say they made cloaks for Bethany or just varric if they were in your party. I would put maybe at a 5 dollar investment. Just because to give the design team their money due., but if they made a package where you could use runes to upgrade and update your cloaks your looking more at a 10 dollar deal. I would even through in a side mission for it. Just to show players how to use it.Alodar wrote...

I, of course, have no actual say in how BioWare might market their hypothetical DLC.
I would note, however, that the $3.00 DLC for Mass Effect is for new models of already existing items -- not brand new types that aren't currently in the game.
The model for the price point of any DLC most likely looks like
Price of DLC * Number of probable customers >>>>>>> Cost of creating DLC.
So if BioWare feels that enough people will buy a cloak DLC and they feel they could recoup the cost of creating said DLC and make a profit a cloak DLC might see the light of day unless they feel that they could make a greater profit investing those development hours elsewhere.

It does not need any animations. It can be simulated with physx. It does not need that much work as you implyAlodar wrote...
