A more action based RPG sounds quite fun, as long as Bioware doesnt completely destroy the RPG elements in exchange for action, (as they kinda did with ME2).

Action RPGs can be done very well. I played rise of the argonauts last week, great story and awesome combat. Very unique skill system too.

I am not sure why it is being held up as the symbol of all evil.  If that is all that is evil then I, for one, welcome my new evil overlords.

ME 2 to me represents that Bioware can make a polished game. From the sounds of DA 2 I cannot really apply that to DA, as even though it had some bugs it wasn't a mess like ME 1, or even KOTOR for that matter.

The game is getting ME2'd? I sure hope so... I don't want Dragon Age to be like Mass Effect, because they are so different, but Mass Effect 2 was a HUGE improvement over the first one. Mass Effect 2 brought focus, and even though it was a little shorter, it was twice as fun. Dragon Age 2 should be more focused without losing the depth and large array of storytelling and world changing decision making.

How did they destroy the RPG elements?  Not that the RPG elements in ME1 were good or balanced but anyway...

Heck a huge portion of ME1 you were driving around in the MAKO which was 100% actiony with no RPG influence at all.

I did like ME1's story a little better though.

Mass Effect was excellent and I'm sure most people who are against the changes will still really enjoy Dragon Age 2. It's kinda funny like that.

ME 2 was an excellent game IMO. It just wasn't a real RPG by Bioware standards.

Neither was Shattered Steel or MDK 2. Baldur's Gate was released over 10 years ago guys.

Both ME and ME2 are shooters in the way they play.  The RPG elements, as far as being a party and interaction with NPCs, are pretty up to the standard though.

Dragon Age isn't nearly as successful over in EA/Bioware's home grounds as the ME series from what I understand

You should definitely consider googling something before writing it; check this:

Yeah ME2 was more character driven.  The plot was pretty minimal.  But it worked I guess.

Having one named main character is the least of the worries about DA2.   It's a benefit if anything, as it allows the main character to be voiced.

How can you assume the game will be like ME2 just because they're using the proven model of one main character from ME2?

A voiced main character is not what I would call a 'benefit.'

I think games are going to be fully voiced going forward unfortunately.

Mass Effect 1 vs.ME2

ME1 - better story, better RPG mechanics, better camera angle, more open, bigger levels,

ME2 - more linear, worse story, better graphics, gutted all RPG mechanics, dumbed down party management.

It makes me sad that so many people think ME2 is better than ME1 just because it's prettier and easier to get headshots.

Maybe that's why I've been having nightmares then. Image IPB

I just hope DA2 doesn't lose complexity that DA:O had. Hate it when developers appeal to casual gamers. >:I

Unfortunately these are all subjective opinions.

It makes me sad that one could compare ME 1 to ME 2.

Let's all remember what RPG stands for before we start talking about how "ME 2 was barely an RPG."

RPG = Role-Playing Game

That said, the majority of that phrase is Role-Playing. The ME series is one where you take a role and your choices actually change things about the world around you. You play a role and it has lasting effects on the universe based on decision you, personally, got to make. If that's not the definition of role-playing, I don't know what is.

Basically, arbitrarily being able to add a 1 to a stat is not role-playing. D&D, the original RPG, had the players do both things. Still, when it came down to it, you spent more time making decisions that affected where you were going, how your party and NPCs felt about you, etc, than you did deciding where to add 1 attribute/skill point.

ME as a series was always action focused and a hybrid shooter... streamlining RPG elements made sense, and ME2 played a lot better for it.

DA:O was a pure RPG, so streamlining it would be a lot worse.

I really enjoyed ME/ME2 don't get me wrong, but I haven't really got the same kind of replay value from the series as I have with DA:O and I think it might have something to do with the character being so static in the ME series, while my character in DA:O can play good, evil; human, dwarf, elf; warrior, mage, rogue and thereby creating a lot more variety to the experience.

I must ask: why do people say we shouldn't speculate in a forum designed for speculation? What are you even doing here if you're not interested in the thoughts the community has on this?

I'm not saying you should leave, your reaction simply coloured me... curious.

I'm not saying people shouldn't speculate, I enjoy speculation. There are just several other topics about this exact thing. And this is whining, not speculating.
