ME 2 was an excellent game IMO. It just wasn't a real RPG by Bioware standards.

Let's all remember what RPG stands for before we start talking about how "ME 2 was barely an RPG."

RPG = Role-Playing Game

That said, the majority of that phrase is Role-Playing. The ME series is one where you take a role and your choices actually change things about the world around you. You play a role and it has lasting effects on the universe based on decision you, personally, got to make. If that's not the definition of role-playing, I don't know what is.

Basically, arbitrarily being able to add a 1 to a stat is not role-playing. D&D, the original RPG, had the players do both things. Still, when it came down to it, you spent more time making decisions that affected where you were going, how your party and NPCs felt about you, etc, than you did deciding where to add 1 attribute/skill point.

I don't need the lecture. I clarified "By Bioware standards" For a reason.

Mass Effect 2 was a vastly different experience than many other Bioware games were. There, hopefully that is more clear.

I'd just really like Dragon Age to keep what made it special, instead of make it Mass Effect with swords and spells.

What are you smoking?  ME2 was fantastic.

DAO was epic as well but lets keep DAO being DA.

Seriously is this what I am going to have to put up with for the entire lead up to release?  Can't you people go whine about ME2 on the ME2 forums?

This.  Nobody wants to see DA become ME and not because some of us did not love ME.

ME 2 to me represents that Bioware can make a polished game. From the sounds of DA 2 I cannot really apply that to DA, as even though it had some bugs it wasn't a mess like ME 1, or even KOTOR for that matter.

How DARE you?  KOTOR is one of the finest RPGs ever made, bugs and all

I agree with this line of reasoning

Mass Effect 1 vs.ME2
ME1 - better story, better RPG mechanics, better camera angle, more open, bigger levels,
ME2 - more linear, worse story, better graphics, gutted all RPG mechanics, dumbed down party management.

It makes me sad that so many people think ME2 is better than ME1 just because it's prettier and easier to get headshots.

That is not why we enjoyed ME2 and thought it was better.  But I do appreciate your attempts at mindreading.

Still didn't stop it from having a terrible framerate.

Also the nonexistant story, the plot twist was really the only thing it had going for it.

Yes ME2 was a fantastic ACTION GAME w/ lots of cutscenes.  The point you are missing is ME2 was expceted to be a refined RPG

Go ahead and tell us why you liked ME2 better, I've already stated why I liked ME1 better

HAHAHA he said KOTOR Had no story.   Who cares about the bad framerate,   DAO framerate wasn't great either.   ME2 has a good framerate because the maps are tiny and the camera is all zoomed in.

Anyone can make a good framerate by zooming in the camera and make levels cramped metal hallways

Well if they end up having half assed dialog trees with DA2 like they did with ME2 I'm going to be pissed.

Oh, and who wants to bet "Hawke" isn't gay, so they can avoid having gay romances?

I'd like to hope so, if hawke is predetermined I would rather not play as a character who is homosexual...

yeah, now you can start calling me a redneck homophobe because I don't want my character to be gay...

Considering the ME games are action/RPG hybrids I think your expectations were misplaced.  You thought they were going to dump the shooter elements after ME1 and make it more like what Dragon Age was?

But again I love the characters and dialog in RPGs and ME2 was a dialog and character centered game.

Also I missed all the zillions of cutscenes.  I thought it was dialog and character interaction.

The storyline of KOTOR was basically

"You have potential"

"Bastilla can influence fighting forces"

"Malak is attacking everything"

"We'll make you a Jedi to track down Malak"

"ZOMG PLOT TWIST AWESOME"

"Bastilla jumps ship"

"You kill Malak/and or Bastilla"

Mass effect 2 was no fun. It was a third-person shooter. Hardly any RPG elements in it. Yea ME1's RPG elements weren't perfect but at least they were there.

Again not RPG/Shooter hybrids.  If you do not like the genre it is understandable you did not like it.

But DA is not a RPG/shooter hybrid.
