ME 1 did have better pacing in some areas as there was no real change of pace outside of Planet Scanning in ME 2. But it did over rely on the Mako which made up a significant portion of the game.

Yeah, hopefully they won't put any "busy work"/"farming" into DA2

My main point is that I really don't want DA2 to be dumbed-down.

ME2 wasn't dumbed down, it was smartened up.

Only the obsessive-compulsive enjoy sorting through hundreds of trash items after every mission.

It makes me sad that so many people think ME2 is better than ME1 just because it's prettier and easier to get headshots.

That was not why I like ME2.  I liked it for the exact same reason you liked KOTOR: the characters and their reactions to situations.  Each character got its own plot to explore their story and personaliy.  No other Bioware game has each party member got their part of the game ot star in and I thought it was brilliant.

ME 1 the inventory was bloated and hard to deal with
ME 2 there was no real inventory, just heavy weapons and research improvements. Much more streamlined and easier.

Did I miss anything?

Easier to deal w/ does not mean "better"  they gutted the system completely.  We had hoped for a better inventory system, instead we got NO INVENTORY

I am not really sure what you mean by this BUT I do agree that I do not want to see the basic elements of DA changed.

'Introducing a dynamic combat system' what could that mean?  Some have speculated it means an action based one but I am not so sure...

Ok so you can have the fat Jabba-the-hut inventory for your copy of ME 3, I'm sure the rest of us will be fine with the simple improvement and research system.

Not every RPG needs an inventory, it's ok to think outside the box once in a while.

Yeah, everyone wants it to retain the 'classical' RPG feel, not take on a Diablo-ish or Two Worlds-esque hack and slash action.  *shudders*

Looks like we can look forward to Ray Muzyka saying "more intense", "visceral" and "emotionally engaging" a lot over the next 8 months.

That said, I don't like what I'm hearing thus far about DA2's plot. The fact that we're getting a set character is horrible enough, but apparently the plot in development is going to be a semi-ripoff of the Fable 1/proposed Fable III plotlines.

Uh oh, someone mentioned Fable.

Fable is less of an RPG than ME2 was :)

And by RPG I don't mean "A game where you play a role"

By RPG I mean "Videogame RPG as defined by the best RPGs in videogames and all their sub genres etc.."

For instance Baldurs gate 2  BG2 defines what it means to be a western based, D&D style party based story driven RTWP RPG

That is the genre DA falls into as well.

Hopefully no one starts in w/ the "COD4 is an RPG"

Well yeah if you like Catcher in the Rye then we obviously aren't going to see eye to eye.

How about film then?  I went out on a limb and named a great book I enjoyed, name a film you thought had a good story and lets see where we are

My fav movie of the last year?    Slumdog Millionaire (except for the last 20 minutes)

At least in Fable 2 you got to see an impact on the world rather than just Epilogue texts

Even if the gameplay, art and gameplay sucked.

The storyline of KOTOR was basically

"You have potential"
"Bastilla can influence fighting forces"
"Malak is attacking everything"
"We'll make you a Jedi to track down Malak"
"ZOMG PLOT TWIST AWESOME"
"Bastilla jumps ship"
"You kill Malak/and or Bastilla"

You know what else?

KOTOR was a great game.

People confuse surprising plot twsits w/ "good story"

Most great stories in literature are not surprising at all.  In fact, shocking twists are usually the result of cheap tropes and lazy writing.

What made the KOTOR story great was not the twists, it was the CHARACTERS, their interactions, how they reacted to events.

Catcher in the Rye is an example.  Nothing really shocking or surprising in that story, but one of the most important stories ever told in this century

Like you said..Everyone can *dumb down* a story...

 LOTR

FRODO destroy da ring!!
I DESTROYED DA RING
The end

lol

I haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire, but I personally prefer The Thing, Apocalypse now and Pulp Fiction

The Catcher in the Rye was actually the last book I read.  I liked it to an extent but I didn't see why it was a big deal.  Also the fact that it was banned was kind of silly when you read the whole book and spot what was objectionable.

Most of us very much enjoy the ME and DA series, so the "haters" are probably not on the DA forums talking about a game not coming out to 2011

By definition we are BIOWARE LOVERS!

I <3 Jade Empire

Mass Effect 1, if you did everything, was about twice as long as Mass Effect 2... However, that's because Most of the stuff in Mass Effect 1 was either "too much rpg", "uninteresting", "unfocused", and "messy". Mass Effect 2, was a much more solid more focused game, because everything he had was interesting, solid, focused, fast paced, character and story driven. This is why Mass Effect 2 is a better game then Mass Effect 1. It wasn't that they didn't take away the RPG aspect of it, it's that they cut all the fat off of the meat, and what you are left with is a juicy steak. That's my opinion anyways.

Yes the ME1 inventory system was bad, again people like me expected an improved RPG style inventory system, I was a little shocked w/ the Halo style inventory

Halo doesn't have an inventory.  It was more like Rainbow Six in its inventory.
