First of all, like so many said, ME and DA are two entirely different experiences.

DA makes sense as being the most profitable game Bioware has made as that is their bread and butter: complex story driven RPG's. They do this very well and the sales show it. There is definately a market for this sort of thing as outside of JRPG's, there are not many options in the realm in general for consoles OR PC's.

ME, taken in the context of shooters/shooter hybrids may be a good series of games, but in comparison to the rest of its "field", it is a rather mediocre performer. There are better shooters and better shooter hybrids. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but I for one think Bioware should stick to their STRENGTH, which is story driven RPG's in the vein of BG I&2 and Dragon Age, as obviously those SELL.

I agree. As long as ME2 people don't write this game should be fine.

I think the replayability in Dragon Age is unlike almost any game I've played, since you can play as a completely different character every time. Since DA2 has a fixed character, it seems like it would be more like ME in that respect. I haven't played ME yet. Are the different choices and story paths enough to convince you to play it multiple times? I'm curious.

Mass effect has less replayablity than dragon age because as you are right, it is a predetermined character. ME1 is much more fun and replayable. ME2 lasted me about 3 playthroughs, and not much mulitple paths or important descisions that affect what happens later in the game.

I don't know choosing who lives or dies in that mission adds quite a bit of replayability

Just to respond to what Haexpane and Onyx Jaguar said to me earlier:

I'm not sure why my statement about console players prompted a Catcher in the Rye example... I was more proving the point that not all console players like dumbed-down elements.

And I mentioned the Fable series as a means of comparison for what the DA2 storyline was becoming from my view. For the record, I hated Fable 1 because you weren't given a choice on how you could play the game, and I liked Fable II because Lionhead fixed that.

Man that's hilarious!

One thing missing: The main character doesn't have a beard. Yes I know he's wearing a helmet. Beard should still show, however.

Looks like we can look forward to Ray Muzyka saying "more intense", "visceral" and "emotionally engaging" a lot over the next 8 months.

And Muzyka wastes no time at all in regurgitating his Idiot's Guide to PR book. :)

According to Dr. Ray Muzyka, senior vice president of EA and co-founder
of BioWare, “Dragon Age 2 will simultaneously deliver an epic story and
set a new bar for intense action in the genre.”

Wow you are a masochist.  There are only so many generic missions on empty planets and mineral collecting in a RPG that wants to be a vehicle game I can stand.

ME1 more fun?  Broken combat system and poor mechanics?  Generic repetitive areas?

Really?

Well I hope those elements get left in ME1 myself.

/facepalm

They have different writing teams pal.  Gaider and co will be writing DA while Hudson and co write ME.  That is how it has worked during the entire length of these series.

I loved ME and ME2 but I prefer the style of DA and would prefer DA be a distinct gaming experience.
