Just to put this into a timescale perspective with regards to DA:O. We know Hawke is a Blight survivor, and we know DA:O covered the 4th Blight. Is Hawke a survivor of that Blight, or one of the Blights before or after? Perhaps even the first Blight?

Probably the one we played through. There was another topic where I argued why I thought this the case.

Valid question now that you mention it, but I'm going to assume the fourth since I haven't heard of a Hawke anywhere in History yet.

Indeed. We should have heard of him I think since he or she is to be the most important person in the universe

I think you folks mean the fifth blight. We played through the fifth blight in Dragon Age Origins.

I imagine it's the Blight that took place in the the Dragon Age.

The 5th one

-The game is still called Dragon Age

-Blights happen every 200 or so years

-Every one hundred years the Chantry changes the name of the age

Ergo if it was any other blight it wouldn't be the Dragon Age would it?

the fourth blight wasnt even much of a blight, compared to the previous ones.

A survivor of this blight isn't really that much of an accomplishment

The game is a sequel so one can assume it would be after the fifth blight.

I would imagine it would be the 4th blight the one your Grey Warden fought through.

The warden fought through the fifth blight. Not the fourth one

The Blight in the game was the 5th:

Dumat, the Dragon of Silence and the archdemon of the First Blight

Zazikel, the Dragon of Chaos and the archdemon of the Second Blight

Toth, the Dragon of Fire and the archdemon of the Third Blight

Andoral, the Dragon of Chains and the archdemon of the Fourth Blight

Urthemiel, the Dragon of Beauty and the archdemon of the Fifth Blight

Razikale, the Dragon of Mystery

Lusacan, the Dragon of Night

2 more to go...

I thought the Blight in DA:O was the fifth Blight, either way I was wondering this myself, but if it isn't the same Blight I would think BioWare would have a lot of angery fanboys/girls on their hands (even though a survivor from the fifth Blight isn't that much of a big deal since it was so short compared to the others)

Well, the game spans like 10 years, so I guess the story starts some time before or during the Origins Blight* while  Hawke is maybe 16-20 years old. He survives and seeks refuge someplace (Orlais, Antiva or elswhere) where he becomes famous and powerful in the following years. Since even Awakening takes place somewhat shortly after the blight (within a year or something) that would explain why we haven't hear of him as he might not be famous yet (or at least not so famous that his name is known in Ferelden which might be pretty far away from DA2's main location).

*Yes, that means I guess we will see and play in Ferelden at the start of DA2.

They've set previously that they would make other games at other times of the setting - they have a lot of history thought out for that purpose before and after the DA events, and in other places of the world. So it is possible that Dragon Age 2 will not take place during the Dragon Age, but keeo the same name anyway because the game takes place in the same setting as DA:O.

Well the game may still be called Dragon Age even if it's set in another age as long as it's the same franchise. That said i don't think they will make such a huge jump in the timeline.

The 5th Blight is the one that happens in DAO.

Right because that wouldn't be an incredible rehash. I mean DAO's plot is a rehash in an of itself (the old evil has been gone for [enter number of years here] and now it has retured to ravaenge the land with another [enter generic grim/dark word here] but elves dwarves and humans have banded together to fight them off once more), but to do a rehash of the game that's a rehash of the generic fantasy storyline is pushing it.

I like this post, it's someone who actually knows the basics of the Dragon Age lore. You, my sir, are a hero ;)

I think it's another blight and not the one from DAO. The ending in Awakening mentions something about another blight happening shortly after the one in DAO. And normally there are a couple of hundred years in between blights but that's not a written rule. If darkspawn find another dragon 2 years after the last blight then that is when another blight will be. The setting is changed and I think it wouldn't make sense to have a Fereldan in another country so Hawke is probably from the country the game will take place in, which means it would have to be another blight.

It's completely possible that DA2 takes place 20 years after DAO and spans another 10 years during the game.

I would guess the 5th blight. There was also a good thory presented in another thread that the bulk of the game would be in Free Marches, as that is where Kirkwall is.
