Has BioWare Let you Down Yet?

As long as it was in their  power, they had (almost) the last word about the finished
product and no franschise was involved (iirc me and me2 counts as franchise): no.

For a vocal minority ME2 was a disappointment, however the majority loved ME2 and prefer it over ME1

GameSpot's User Scores are also higher for ME2

They did not make KOTOR. But they are responsible for the buggy wreck called DA Awakening. So, my expectations are low and given what they are saying re: graphics, combat and all that, I am afraid DA2 will be a shiny but useless bauble. :crying:

To answer the OP: no, it hasn't. Awakening could have been much better, though. Oh, and the latest gameplay video for SW:TOR looks awful.

That's kind of emarassing for me, cause I must admit I'm not a huge fan of any Bioware game since BG2.

I usually enjoy them fine enough, but that's all.

I fiercely hated NWN, NWN2 (Obsidian, again) and Jade Empire, by the way.

Beside that, even considering BG2, I never loved any Bioware game as much as I loved old ORIGIN titles.

Ultima saga (and Ultima VII over all) still being, in my opinion, the absolute pinnacle of computer RPGs.

They cannot. They granted a big exclusive full reveal to one of the worst magazines in the industry, so now they're pretty much tied and gagged for a month :innocent:

Ah, the power of Gamestop...

not to mention one a lot of the world cant get it

Whenever Bioware has actually made a game - I've never been let down, not ever.

Pinnacle Station.  Your argument is invalid.

I would've hated them if they carried on the warden, so the new character is a plus point for me.

Providing that they keep DA2 an RPG and don't turn it into some shooter with a few RPG elements (ME2 anyone?) I'm willing to provide cunnilingus and fellatio on the Bioware team.

Let's see...if the game list on wikipedia is correct (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioWare], I played every RPG they made ( I didn't even know that until now :D: BG1+Addon, BG2+Addon, NWN + the second addon, Kotor1, Jade Empire 1, ME1, DA+Addon and ME2, the only things missing are the first NWN-Addon and some of the DLC for DA and ME2 (although I bought the ne DA-Addon, as much as I hate myself for doing so ).

Did they let me down? Hm...NWN was probably the only real letdown for me and even so, I played it through several times nonetheless.

The real important things for me are good characters and a good story, I don't mind combat systems that much. I like to play the shooter ME2 as much as the "AD&D please roll a 14 to hit"-combat system of BG2. And honestly, I thought there was a bit to much combat in DA1. Specially the Dark Roads were dragging it out sometimes.
So the mean point of criticism seems to be the word "dynamic" in the announcement, because a lot of people seems to fear, that means turning DA into a Hack'n Slay to make it more playable for consoles.

>>Well... KOTOR 2 kind of sucked

Aside from the already noted fact that Obsidian, not Bioware was responsible for KotoR2, the game didn't suck it was simply unfinished - and that was the fault of Lucas Arts pushing an unprepared game out for the holiday rush rather than giving it the one more month it needed.

>>I could care less, yes.

But that's because I care a lot. Perhaps that isn't what you meant?

I always wanted someone to say that to me, just so I could respond "No, I could care less ... right now for example."

Seriously, I have such faith in Bioware they would have to do something beyond the pale to outright lose my business - like removing companion characters from the game ... that's about it. (And I have a really hard time imagining Bioware - of all companies - doing such a thing)

Like you've said David, people react so strongly because they are invested and the loved the product so much the way it was; change terrifies people.

I must say, I really appreciate how active the writers, devs, reps and such have been on this forum - and generally how understanding and helpful when they can be. If you're ever in Portland, Or. drop me a note, I'll take you out to dinner.

Probably have to go on a little about ME 2 here before I wade into the DA 2 discussion.

In streamlining ME 2 (which is no bad thing) I just think some sacrifices were a bit too much. The complete removal of the inventory (which could get cumbersome later on in the game), the revamped health system wasn't too bad but I liked my medi-gels. A couple other less significant gripes but the overall product of ME 2 was great. Graphics were sharper, combat more efficient.

DA 2; what do we really know about it besides we're playing a customizable human character? I'll admit right there that it is rather disappointing that you can't pick another race but that's the game they're gonna give us. Another bit is that the story is told over 10 years. Gameplay hours seem to matter a great deal, and to some degree it does translate into value for money, but this being a product from a proven RPG-maker I doubt it will be a simple affair.

I just hope it doesn't go the way of ME 2 streamlining and deliver a more action oriented, less traditional RPG. If it does go that way I have the option of not picking it up at all because DA 2 starts with a new character, unlike Shepard in whom I'd invested hours of my life already.

Babbling on about what might or might not be is rather useless, and only leads to more bitter disappointment or smug "I told you so" moments, so I'd wait until we get more information from Bioware before saying more about DA 2. It is fun, and very good to see the Bioware folk taking time to wander about the forums and respond to posts. Kinda shows that they care? I have my fingers crossed for DA 2, and while I'm sure it won't tick all my boxes, I hope it ticks enough to make it a great game.

Considering the fact that for the past three years Bioware titles (Mass Effect 1 & 2, Dragon Age, and KoToR.) have taken up 90% of my videogame time, no Bioware has not let me down.

I'll say this to those who are all concerned about things being changed to reach a more massive audience. We already reached a massive audience with DA:O. It would be silly to make DA2 into something that the DA:O audience couldn't recognize.

There were similar statements about ME2...In the end the changes were pretty massive.

Because the things that made Mass Effect unique - dialogue, customization, character development - were changed?

They weren't. People brush off the tens of thousands of written and voiced dialogue and improved animations as if it wasn't difficult to include.

what character developement or costumization?

the only thing that changed was that you got a pre-made scar and you could either remove it or "work on it"

I don't think Shepard had any character developing beside placing a few skill points here and there

the story did develope further true but the same is not true of the protagonist

however, since ME1 the setting of 1 human with a preset name was already there, not like for Dragon Age

I think the concepts of what character development and character customization are flew over your head a while ago.

So I assume you are a professional writer of some sort or someone with similar qualifications? Because it doesn't seem to matter who or how many writers BioWare hires, people will continue to criticize them while hiding behind their precious anonymity.

You really should try to illuminate what you are talking about here, it sounds like you are thinking solely on the story progression elements, not the gameplay elements.

I am a hobby author in my nation, i got 4 novels out, if Bioware asks for my real identity I will give it to them, but I am not crazy enough to say it on public forums

also, critic on the decisions are not based on a persons jobs or hobby, but on personal preference, and everyone can do it, not as if you could deny this right to people
