The only thing that would let me down is if they changed the battle system to a more action oriented style instead a true RPG, everything else, I am pretty much on board.

This is really my only concern as well.

Until Bioware makes another in depth RPG game that comes with an inch and a half thick metal spiral bound manual, that is the size of a Stephen King novel.....yes, they have let me down. I still have it, you know what I mean...
Partially said tongue in cheek...wink wink and all that.
Bioware is still one of the strongest gaming companies out there. They have shown remarkable resolve with Dragon Age (in a Mass Effect gameplay type of storm), to try to give us a traditonal RPG albeit more basic at this time due to it being a new rule set.

Time will tell.

In the aforementioned manual, Dr. Ray Muzyka did a dedication to Daniel Walker that was touching. I find it hard to believe that a man who has been around since then doesn't know "what's up". Regardless of whatever pressures might be weighing down his shoulders.

This will sound really fanboyish but ever since Baldur's Gate, Bioware hasn't let me down at all.

Kotor-Love it

NWN and the expansions-eh buggy at times but overall enjoyable

Baldur's Gate 2 and expansion-Considering this is one of the best rpg's of all time (my opinion), loved it

Jade Empire-Combat was very repetitious, but the world and different environment was a lot of fun.

Mass Effect- I went through this game 10+ times. That says it all.

Mass Effect 2- I used the 10 characters in this game. Again, that says it all.

Dragon Age- It a call back to Baldur's Gate. Graphics may be muddled at times but a very enjoyable game.

Sonic- Ehh.....this could be their weakest game. I still enjoyed it but at the same time it didn't really have that Sonic fast feel.

Do I have nic pics with their games? Yes, who doesn't? But at the same time, all the enjoyable parts of their games that I have as I play them make the nic pics that I have seem...well, nic picky.

So, bring on Dragon Age 2!

Thanks for the votes of confidence, from those of you who, you know, gave votes of confidence.

There's a lot of info in the upcoming Game Informer issue, and once that's out, we can talk a lot more. It directly addresses a lot of the questions out there. I can say, "don't worry, you'll love this game," until I lose my voice. But it won't mean anything til you get the big infodump that's coming.

I'll say this to those who are all concerned about things being changed to reach a more massive audience. We already reached a massive audience with DA:O. It would be silly to make DA2 into something that the DA:O audience couldn't recognize.

You shouldn't even bother with some people. They just can't be satisfied by anything.

Just twice: BioWare Bazaar and making the DR ending of Origins canon.

Thrice if you count not having hear about another community event, which was supposed to get announced in the following weeks.

Could be worse, I guess, especially compared to how I think of most other developers.

the DR is canonized in DA2? I wasn't aware any more information was released

Bioware has never let me down. If I had expected Sonic Chronicles to be good, maybe, but I didn't.

I play Bioware games for their storytelling. Gameplay is important, of course, but the strong writing is what sets them apart from most other developers. I'm really looking forward to learning more about DA2. Bioware should just focus on making the quality game they want to make, and not worry about the fan overreaction.

very nice to hear. especially since panic was slowly starting to creep into my optimism.
Too long a wait, though. Why must you always tease us so, o BioWare? I suppose I'll leave the boards till then again. Otherwise I'll surely turn crazy.

Bioware have expanded, just like the games industry as a whole, and with it their fanbase. For every 1 of us old school Bioware fans who go back to Neverwinter Nights, yay even unto Baldur's Gate, there are 10 or 20 people who prefer the new, more user-friendly, more accessable, EA owned Bioware games. We are a vocal minority, as much as it may pain some of you folks. It's pure maths: cater for the majority who want an easy game to get into when they get home from work in the evening. It's just how the business works. I'm not even angry or disappointed. I don't even mind.

Don't forget that Dragon Age could be altered and modified a LOT and still be something the DA:O audience "could recognize".

Victor isn't saying there won't be drastic changes, just that it won't be something radical like turning it into a turn-based strategy.

ME2 was a gigantic disappointment.

Awakening was also a disappointment.

And the only DLC I've really thought worthwhile so far was Leliana's Song.

So, yeah, BioWare's going to have to earn my faith for this one, and they're off to a bad start.

Now, I firmly believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but how are they off to a "bad" start" when all they did announce the game exists?  All we know is that the main character's name is Hawke.  We don't know if "Hawke" is always a man (the promotional art doesn't count: Commander Shepard is always portrayed as a man in official artwork, and we all know you cna be a woman), we do know you can be any of the three base classes.  That's about it.  Unless you mean that you won't be continuing the story with your old Warden, which I honestly believed was an obvious move on their part.  To many variable in the ending of the first game to export.  They tried to do it with Awakening, afterall, and look how many people were less than pleased with the result.

Victor, can I ask why theres a blanket Ban on Bioware employees actually saying 'anything'......how much money did Game Informer pay EA?

sorry, but for a magazine to have first rights over whats what, over you guys is quite frankly....a little disturbing.

It's how these magazines stay in business I'm afraid.

Marketing's cool with it since it builds up hype especially with more casual gamers who find out about it based on seeing the cover in a store.

Great. But I would've thought the same after ME 1. But apparently, the thinking went like this: Reaching a massive audience is great, but reaching an even bigger audience is even better. So basically, BioWare took the existing fans for granted and changed a lot to make the successor more appealing to the mass market. Unfortunately, I will have to assume the same about DA 2 for now, until credible (!) reviews tell me otherwise.

I take it that DA2 will play similar to Lelianna's Song. It seemed alot of people liked the DLC so I am willing to wait for more information. Just the info we have received so far is interesting.

I would rather play a new character than be disappointed in where my old character was taken.

Took the existing fans for granted? It's more like "fans" taking everything about modern gaming for granted.

People don't seem to appreciate how much work the writers put in despite all the limitations placed on them by all the other features in BioWare games that we've come to expect.

We know that the PC has to be human; we know the surname is Hawke; we pretty much know we will be bombarded with this iconic Hawke dude in all the advertising to come. That last fact alone is enough to annoy me. It's a bad start. It's not a "damning start", but it's annoying to think I'm going to have to put up with another Sheploo in the months before release, wondering if we'll ever see the female Hawke.

I didn't want to carry over my Warden, nor did I want the main character in DA2 to be Morrigan's child. There were way too many options, and, hell, Morrigan's god child doesn't even have to exist.

But, taking into account what we do know and how BioWare's recent projects have turned out, they're off to a bd start with me.

Everything about ME 2 sucked, they are ruining DA 2 but turning it into ME 2. First Awakening now this. They are dumbing down Dragon Age to appeal to a mass audience. To think I once respected Bioware.

major dissappointments for me:

1- turning kotor to a mmo
2- DAA
3- bioware bazaar
4- lack of support for DAO-DAA

minor ones:

1- gameplay changes of ME2

I didn´t feel the changes were that big in ME2, but with DA almos anything changed from gameplay is already big, being a more traditional RPG. No races Origins is bad enough, but if I see anything of a more friendly combat system then is time to start seriously worrying.
The changing main character and what it implies about the events and characters from DA:O is what is really dissapointing. So much that can be told with them.

Can anybody tell me. What is the point in this voiced dialog ( like mass effect )

They say the completely different thing? to what it says on the screen!

With Mass Effect's dialogue they give you a very short outline of what the character is going to say. This allows for a more streamlined experience instead of reading through all the dialogue. In Mass Effect the player character is voiced, If they gave you a dialogue system like Dragon Age it would get annoying reading what the character is going to say then listening to it.

1. Awakening was rushed and wasn't made by Dragon Age's core team. It was made by the DLC team.
2. You are over reacting when little information is even out yet.
