Has BioWare Let you Down Yet?

Suggesting Obsidian develop KOTOR 2 instead of holding off & doing it themselves.
Doing online KOTOR instead of KOTOR 3.
Biggest disappointment was today though:
Bioware announcing that DA2 will be a completely new story, making the hugely enjoyable story & characters from the first one completely meaningless.
Thanks Bioware.

...I'm actually interested in getting Jade Empire, not to mention Awakening and the last two DLC's that got released, and then there is Mass Effect 1 and 2 I don't even own yet, but keep hearing good things about them.

Always a pleasure to know that you can make everyone happy, even when providing very little information for them to go on.

how does it make that one meaningless? It all still happened. i still had fun playing the first one. If you hadn't stopped the blight in the first one, Hawke wouldn't even existThe Tizminator wrote...

Meaningless how? it was only thanks to the story and characters that a future will exist thanks to destroying the blight.

This, especially, sounds a bit familiar to me. I'm still probably going to enjoy the story in Dragon Age 2, but I can't help but worry it will be much of the same. You are one of the few who escaped the destruction of your home. Now, forced to fight for survival in an ever-changing world, you must gather the deadliest of allies, amass fame and fortune, and seal your place in history. This is the story of how the world changed forever. The legend of your Rise to Power begins now..

People keep praising BioWare for their character development and then bash them when their favorite character doesn't make it into the next game.
Apparently character development means "Please keep my beloved companion without ever making new characters!" these days.

I think it was LA's Decision on Obsidan but your last point makes no real sense DA:O was the foundation of the world (Thus Origins) and I am pretty sure that the characters and story will actually be in there (big question is will it be a default past of the DA:O story or will they take a clue from the ME group and allow us to import our DA:O save so the world will be like we left it) too early to really make the assumption that the story & characters from Origins will be meaningless.

Ahhh, sarcasm. You taste so sweet. ^^
Anyway, David. You guys don't regret announcing a sequel to one of the most successful games of the past few years yet?

Oh, I don't think it's as bad as that. People get emotionally attached; that's a good thing. Until they can see what the new game actually is, all most people are going to see is what it isn't. That makes it a net negative for them. People will get excited and nervously clench their hands and do the pee-pee dance. All we can do until they learn the answers to their concerns is smile and nod.Ecael wrote...

However, when those same people realize that their character doesn't last forever, they act like they're some kind of victim of "the man" or "the system" - basically biting the hand that feeds them.

I can remember when people where saying the same thing for awakenings. Who's to say we won't love the characters that will be in DA2? Though to be fair i am dissapointed that we don't get to play our origins character, but then again we just learned about the game so maybe there is something more for our characters? Atleast it's something to hope for.

If it isn't particularly similar in construction to its predecessor, why call it a sequel at all? If Dark Alliance had been released as Baldur's Gate 3, I think fans would have been very justifiably upset at what it wasn't, but the largest part of that disappointment would have been the expectation gap explicitly created by naming it as a sequel instead of a mechanically different game in the same setting.
It's early, we know very little, I know. But some misconceptions have been cleared up extremely quickly (player race, player origin, player gender, etc). The nature of the combat gameplay, on the other hand, remains disturbingly nebulous.
Calling it 'Dragon Age: Rebellion" would have set up a very different set of expectations for what it is and isn't. If it turned out that the core gameplay for such a game is more Elder Scrolls-like (or God of War-like, or even Jade Empire-like), the only disappointment about what such a game isn't would center around the fact that it isn't DA2 yet. Hope would remain for a sequel more similar to what fans loved about the first.
But take the same game and call it DA2 and yes, naturally, there will be a great deal more unhappiness about what it isn't. In fact, the disappointment may be keen enough to substantially reduce the fan's inclination to play the game, not because he or she wouldn't enjoy it on its own merits, but precisely because it was named in such a way as to highlight exactly what it is not.

actually Elder Scrolls is Elder Scrolls 1-4 (with 4 being Oblivion) so NOT all sequals are as you say and if you read the actual title is Dragon Age 2 : Rise to Power (similar to The Elder Scrolls 4 : Oblivion or The Elder Scrolls 3 : Morrowind)
