I haven't noticed anyone asking these yet, so here goes:

Will DA2 support native 64-bit installation?

Will DA2 require DX10 or 11?

Will DA2 make use of hardware physics and if so, though which system? (hopefully an OpenCL-based solution)

Have any of our previous suggestions for the Dragon Age suggestions forum, that didn't make it into DA:O, made it into DA2?

:D

My only concern is that it looks good on my big HDTV.

I only hope that PS3 version will look on par with other PS3 games. Hell, I've downloaded Lead and Gold for PS3 today and it has better graphics than DAO and high and stable framerate.

And compared to PS3 exclusives... I know it's not about gfx, but come on it looks like **** compared to other PS3 games. Look at Demon's Souls. Much better graphics than DAO. And From Software is not that big or resourceful developer...

It will likely have 64bit support, but not native. A majority of PC people still use 32bit.

Very unlikely it will require DX11. It might support DX10+, but that is a huge marketing mistake, likely to still support DX9.

Wonder if they use Unreal engine 3? I think so.

Doubtful.

Neither, The game will most certainly support DX9 at a minimum.

Again, doubtful.

I'm sure Zeschuk mentioned in an interview with Gamespy a while back that they're keeping the smae engine, just prettying it up.

Given the console limitations however, its my impression that DA2 won't have any fancy PC centric features. I'd love to be wrong though, but my overall feel so far of DA2 is that this is more tailored to consoles than the PC.

Bear in mind that DAO is one of the worst looking games on PS3 and 360, there's a lot of space for optimization here.

All they need to do for native support is to add a 64-bit executable - you can also have a 32-bit executable, and let the installer determine which one to use. I know there are some installers that support both 64-bit and 32-bit installations...

No doubt, but the consoles are limited to DX9, not 10 or 11. So it can certainly look better with engine optimizations and such, but I'm skeptical BioWare would go to the trouble of implementing fancy DX 10 or 11 features when only the PC would see their benefits.

Hell, in most PC games now you're happy if they allow AA. As a PC gamer, I'm eager to see if DA2 is abandoning the PC first mentality of DAO or if they're still having a PC-centric approach.

Hoho, that's funny because Mass Effect 1+2 use it and DA2 is like Mass Effect! Hoho, you are funny!

It's too early to accurately answer those questions, although I can't see them blocking out DX9 when Win XP is still one of the most widely used operating systems.

Yes, but it won't be by the time DA2 gets released, if the Steam Hardware Survey is any indication. Windows 7 is already the most common OS, with about 2/3 of the Windows 7 installations being 64-bit. And there's a clear trend of people switching over from windows XP to windows 7, almost 3% per month. If that trend continues over the next 9 months, only 10% will still be using XP when DA2 gets released...

And you already have some games like Just Cause 2 that don't run on XP. I doubt DA2 would be like that, but XP is ancient at this point.

I wouldn't mind it being DX10+ only - the PC version should not be held back by the limited technology of the consoles, and by the time of release most people will be having a capable and ready system...

Pretty sure the posts about Windows XP will be quite up to date....at the discussion of DA 3.  Definately the game engine have been developed by now.  But it was being worked out  when it wasn't appropriate not to consider Windows XP as a quite common operating system.  Though the games anounced in 2010 seem to be the last Windows XP supporters.  Just Course 2 is still more exсeption than the rule.

Just Cause 2 and Halo 2 are a handful of the few games that do not support Windows XP. I don't see why WinXP won't be supported for DA2.

XP can also be supported by using openGL 4.0 :innocent:

They could also do what some developers do and render it in DX9 but allow DX10 options for those who can use them.

They could have a whole Blu-Ray of space in the PS3 case :)

That leaves out many features and with a large performance hit, but it would be better than nothing, I suppose...

If they're going that way, though, I want to see DX11 options as well, like tesselation.

DA-O runs very well on my Windows 7 64 bit PC. I have never had any trouble. Why wouldn't DA-O 2?
