That's exactly what I mean, they keep saying we don't have to be worried about the "Mass-Effect" thing but they didn't answer about that question yet. So I am worried.bjdbwea wrote...
That's the most important question. If the community can fix the things that "had" to be streamlined for the mass market, it goes a long way to increase the chances of me buying the game. Fallout 3 for example understandably had to sell to the mainstream, and had to work on consoles, but the community can - and has - fixed and improved everything for the PC version. And importantly, they could still sell their DLCs very well. If BioWare/EA are afraid of delivering a toolset, it will greatly (further) reduce the chances of me buying the game.

It should include everything directly.

And then if they release one (either at release or shortly thereafter) they'll make everyone happy.
It's classic Machiavelli. The bad news all at once, and the good news little by little

As posted here in Aug 09 20010:

"A user on the BioWare Social Network forums posted some new DA2 information from an interview in a French magazine. Lead designer Mike Laidlaw is quoted as saying the sequel is being developed with consoles in mind because the majority of sales for Dragon Age: Origins were for those platforms. As a result, BioWare focused on a traditional 3rd-person camera angle and decided not to include the content creator/editor with the game. Quoted and translated:
[Joystick] Why did you leave/forsake the "a la Baldur's gate" view on PC of the first Dragon Age?
[Mike Laidlaw] For budgetary reasons, we focused our work on a 3rd person view, that asks for very detailed and nice textures so that the player can admire the game with a close-up view. With an aerial view [isometric] we should cover much more ground and so create other textures. Now, the game mainly sold on console, so we're going the way of the audience.
[Joystick] Will you release a toolset for DAO 2?
[Mike Laidlaw] To be short, DAO 2 will not have a toolset. I think that DAO 1 toolset is very powerful but very complicated.
Following 37 pages of backlash, Mr. Laidlaw made an appearance on the forums (scroll to the bottom of the page) in an attempt to clear up some confusion. He admits there will not be a toolset released with DA2, but since it hasn't changed much since DA:O, "there isn't a new toolset to release, per se." He says that they are, however, "investigating what it would take to update the community toolset to match ours.""
I was going to buy it on PC for this reason (toolset) a long with xbox 360.

Not being tongue in cheek, honest its a great way to boost post game sales well conceived plan and it actually saves costs by not making a toolset. Some one earned their bonus on that one

Not true. They aren't going to release a new toolset, but they are looking into patching the existing one to be compatible with DA2.MIke_18 wrote...
Not gonna happen. Confirmed by Mike Laidlaw in french magasine.

You believe that? Haha
For Joystick :
We wont release a toolset. Too complicated
For forum after thiry pages of backlash :While we won't be releasing a toolset update in tandem with Dragon Age 2, we ARE investigating what it would take to update the community toolset to match ours, along with providing DA2 content in the future.
Had to make some damage control. Mod tools not gonna happen.

To be fair they only said they would look into this, after major fan tantrums and meltdowns. They also promised nothing, that felt like they just wanted to defuse a bad situation, to most people who actually went through this statement. If they say oops after the game is sold what are you gonna do?

Oh, I know it's not a guarantee or anything, I was just disputing the idea that mike laidlaw confirmed that it wasn't happening.Bruno Hslaw wrote...

Not happenin ! In an official intreview.
And he said on the forums : Not happenin, but we're investigating.
So yeah...they're investigating. Which i find it hard to believe. Because they have to get the game in stores for a year. Who knows what they had to cut short, like textures, ect , they're not gonna waste time with this.

And on a side note the only reason the toolset was available when Origins shipped was because of the delay.

Correct. We've said we'll look into it after work on the game is done. If someone wants to be pessimistic and say "oh it'll never happen because they want to sell more DLC" then so be it. Can't argue with pessimism, especially ones laced with conspiracy theories.

Not sure it's ever gotten me anywhere, but still. I try to think of it as exercise.
