No.

Call him Chris.

It will be good for immersion.

Hawke works on many different levels. Mainly because it's a single syllable last name which makes it all the sweeter.

Henry Hawke

Hans Hawke

Heidi Hawke

Heather Hawke

I could go on forever. As an amateur poet and writer, I live for alliteration and assonance. Using the same sounds suddenly and without halting or hesitation can really reinforce the quality and carry-through of very simple sentences. I dare say that hawke is a highly daring decision on the part of those devious developers.

Aww no,don't change it! My first character will be appropriately named 'Tomma'.

Seriously though, they're not gonna change it,despite how cheesy it sounds.

There's always a chance, plus I imagine I will be cringing in either pain or laughter every time I make my female character with the surname of Hawke

Makes me think of that Flash Gorden movie - "Hawke! Ahhaa! He's incredible!"

That movie was very cheesy.

And my first character will be called Sparrow, in honour of Ursula Le Guin.

On a 'sparrow' related note, does the whole 'Hawke' thing remind anyone else immensely of Fable II?

Yea, Hawke is not English enough for the champion of Kirkwall, change it to Wordsworth, give the voice actors a good time pronouncing that!

Hahaha good one. :D

Well, I don't like Hawke, because my mind is a bit corrupted, so to speak. Play Lineage 2 and you'll know what I mean - HAWKEYE!!! Gosh... I just can't stop laughing when I see the awesome surname "Hawke".
For now we've the utterly brave Hawke and Howe, I bet Anders was a sort of prophet and we'll get to see the Whats, the Whys and the Whos as well.

And call him what? The Champion?

Having no name makes the dialogues less personal. I much prefered people calling Shepard by name rather then everybody calling the protagonist in DAO The Warden

That's all you can come up with? The Champion? Congratulations.

Having a last name force fed by Bioware and having the entire universe call me by that last name, and that last name only, isn't personal nor fun, at all.

I don’t like it!

It’s worse than it was whit awakening.

If Biowere continues like this then what’s the point of having Romance and Friendship give our wardens a break!

I'm going to nick that for my character! :P *cackles* Seriously. I'm crap at coming up with names, and this is as good as it gets.

Anyway. Hawke does sound cheesy, but it is no deal-breaker. It just sounds like someone tried to come up with something "generically cool" rather than something flavorful. Aeducan, Cousland, Mahariel. Those were strong surnames which carried a certain flavor that fits the setting.

So you want everyone to call you "Warden?"  Is that what you're getting at?  Or did you have some other suggestion?  Or are you really proposing that BioWare find some way to accomodate every possible first and last name choice?

I really, really, really want a good surname that doesn't sound like something from an action movie.

Agreed, I personallyl oved the surname Aeducan, plus I can't think of very good female names with a surname of Hawke that fit into the era of Dragon Age

Nothing wrong with Hawke. Surely beats Smith or Anderson.

This new character thing might be actually quite fun, specially if it brings the VO for main character. Never really liked any of my DA:O Characters, usually just wanted them to die in the end to serve some purpose.

I suppose it's an alright surname. It isn't horrible, though it reminds me of Starfox from the 64 (ahh, the good ol' days). Based on the information we recieve by the time it is released, I'll have decided whether or not I'll want it and if I do, I will just play as Hawke with the info that he gave himself a name as a runaway escaping his past or something. I suppose I'll keep something like that in the back of my mind, but anyways, it isn't a big deal, so long as this story rips a new one into the RPG genre of storytelling and we keep most of the good things from origins (I am only slightly disappointed that we are restricted to one person, but I look on the bright side and see that it gives a lot more focus to the one character that I'm likely to make anyway, as I always play as a human)

Can we start making bets on the protagonist for DA 3? I'll start with Hunt.
