no matter how amazing and perfect this game is, I'm not playing if we can't have romances to give our character some spiceRazike Gothly wrote...
I don’t like it!
It’s worse than it was whit awakening.
If Biowere continues like this then what’s the point of having Romance and Friendship give our wardens a break!
Change the surname Hawke

And call him what? The Champion?Paromlin wrote...
How about... leave it blank?
Having no name makes the dialogues less personal. I much prefered people calling Shepard by name rather then everybody calling the protagonist in DAO The Warden
That's all you can come up with? The Champion? Congratulations.
Having a last name force fed by Bioware and having the entire universe call me by that last name, and that last name only, isn't personal nor fun, at all.
So you want everyone to call you "Warden?" Is that what you're getting at? Or did you have some other suggestion? Or are you really proposing that BioWare find some way to accomodate every possible first and last name choice?
Warden? *facepalm*
How about NPCs not calling you by name? Like it's always been till the "next-gen" bio era. I know it's shock-inducing - but it can be done perfectly.
Tough luck though if you're sooo yearning for all the world calling you by your last name (how idiotic is that?); a last name not even of your choice.

I agree with Paromlin:
I don't like that hawke is going to be called by his last name throughout the game... in the military it works, ie. shepard, or if we are referring to sports stars. but you really expect me to believe that in Thedas people only address hawke by his last name?? alistar, i think, didn't even have one... if he did i never heard it... or heard anyone call him by it??

So, since you have a last name, everyone MUST call you by that?
Edit: Methinks some will call you things like you, woman, man, fiend etc.

And why do you think they'll feed your PC with a last name? If not for a considerable number of NPCs calling you by that last name?

Being called you throughout the whole game would get old. The PC's had last names in Origins too, and they were used very scarcely.

So.. what's the purpose if it's going to be used very scarcely? Is it there just to annoy us - HHAHA we chose a surname for you!

I was merely pointing out that it doesn't have to be used all the time. I don't remember the surname thing to be very hindering during Origins.

My point is that it can be done without, if it's going to be used scarcely. If it's not going to be used scarcely, it will be very annoying.
The thing with orangins is that you had at least some choice in the surname department (however pathetic it was) and could pick an orangin that had a character that's not going to be addressed by his surname. This won't be the case with DA2 obviously.

Only if he's bald with a goatee, and the plot revolves around founding the brotherhood of Nod and bringing Tiberium into the world.
Oh, and if he's voiced by Joe Kucan.
And he has to be immortal, cause you can't kill the Messiah.
Otherwise, no. No Kane.
I might go with Jim Hawke for a male character though. CAPTAIN Jim Hawke.
