Wait, Aren't there going to be new classes?
"Awwwwwwwwwwwwww"
We'll have to wait and see I suppose?
Anyways I have a hard time picturing that Bearded man as a mage.
I have a feeling there will be new specializations for each base class...I could be wrong.

Poor, iconic Hawke. Ostracized for the sake of his beard...
"Your beard is insufficiently magey! Either shave, or reroll warrior!"
*SPOILER ALERT*
The plot twist is that at the end of the game your LI sneaks up on Hawke as he's sleeping, and cuts his beard. When he awakes, he realizes his power has vanished with his hair. The darkspawn easily catch him, and gauge out his eyes in a darkspawn prison. The game ends when Hawke makes a last ditch attempt to stop them by knocking down the giant pillars of the fade, thus killing himself. That's how Solom-- I mean Hawke ---

A village gets destroyed, where you can be either a commoner or noble, or a Circle Tower gets taken down, but the mage character survives, and so on.
Hopefully this gets clarified one way or the other with the GI article.

Does this mean that Hawke is apostate?
Edit - This is what I get for not reading the whole thread before commenting. Already being discussed, please ignore.

I don't think that the most important person in Thedas has superiors in the chantry, so I'd assume that.
Unless he becomes a GW that is.

I can't confirm this rumor. But some of us have tried to get the name of the game changed to Dragon Age: Beardy Adventures. So far it has not caught on.

And some also say Mike Hawke is very hairy and stands taller than most large men or two smaller men.

Nah, one of the devs explicitly said Hawke isn't the godbaby.iTomes wrote...

Ok, lets discuss some REAL concerns for a while.
You have fixed origin, dude who survived blight, when noone in his village dont.
Which means, you are not locked down in a Circle.
Which means you wont be mage.
Am I wrong? Please say Im wrong.
You're wrong. Aside from the bits everybody else pointed out we should review exactly what the description said
"You are one of the few who escaped the destruction of your home."
Home. Never said Villiage.
Even if a dev said villiage somewhere else, perhaps the reason you survived is because you weren't there at the time.

"Cabbage-smelling beard of hermit +10 magic"
I think beard should be an equipable item, like helmet or ring. So you can equip warrior beard (beer-soaked), mage beard (large with inclusions of mysterious or cabbage origin) or rogue beard (goat style). It also should probably be upgradeable. but the best beards in game must be looted from the toughest characters, like the legendary Bearded Dragon of Brewery...

Somewhat on topic, I anyhow(e) hope there will be kind-of-origin stories. As stated oh so many times before, there has been no talk of villages!

As long as Mike Hawk will get some beardy "romance" (hardcore wo-hooo that is), I don't care if his magical power sits in the beard, eyebrow or any other hairy area of his heroic body.

as far as i know the devs said there won't be origins.

You don't just "become" a full blown adult apostate, magic seems to manifest itself as a young age. The backstory of an apostate Hawke who discovered his magical power, learned to control it and evaded the Templars. ( I doubt these guys just sit on their ass waiting for Mage's to be delivered to them, they must always be looking for signs)
It seems that a magical Hawke would be a completely different person than a Rogue or Warrior Hawke in upbringing... so without Origin stories it's confusing to me as how they're going to handle that. Atleast in Mass Effect you could pass it off as Omni Tool proficiency or Biotic Implants.

I lol'd extremely hard on that one.
And beeing able to play apostate would indeed be silly awsome.
