Hi everyone!


This thread intends to create a database of all the created characters that their author accepts to share with others.

Why?
- because the creator may not use all their creations as PCs and might keep on creating characters that they want to be used rather than rotting in the CC
- because it's not always easy to create a character you like, and others might already have created just the right guy for you.
- don't hesitate to post character ideas request, more people than you think are bored and could give it a try.


The idea is simple, post a picture of your character, his origin, class and race.

If others are interested to get it, they send you an MP containing their e-mail address, and you mail them back the character files.

It is the "NAME of character".chr file that can be found in CC here: Bioware/DragonAge/Pre-releasecharacters/

When you receive the file, simply drop it in this folder, open the CC and enjoy!

Only constraint, please, give credit to the original creator of the character if you intend to post lots of pictures of this character around here or if you use it in a mod.


With time, I hope this thread will evolve into a community webpage, with direct download of the files available, but my webmaster skills are quite limited at the moment. 


OK, I begin:

I do not share all my characters, but I have a dedicated album to characters I share (check my sig)

Here is Prince charmant (you sure can change the name) - Human noble warrior

NB: the CC seems to shrink the jaw. If you want him to look like in the pictures, you'll have to enlarge the jaw a small bit. It's like tattoos, that tend to reset. Just know it, and do the change when you'll import this character in game.

HOW TO TAKE CC SCREENSHOTS:
- you are lucky and it works perfectly, so inside CC, you press the impscreen button, and the screenshot appears in the Document/Bioware/DragonAge/Screenshots/User file. Open it with paint, resize it, and post it to your albums here to share them on BSN.
- the feature above does not work, try impscreen, and then, open paint, go to the task bar, and choose paste. Normally, the last screenshot taken with imprscreen button will appear.
- or, even easier, use FRAPS.

Wouldn't it be better to wait till the feature altering bugs that occur when editing characters in the CC are fixed?

On the other hand, are we certain no sensitive data is transferred in .chr files? It would be interesting if passwords or serial numbers show up in there.

Erasing the bugs won't erase the appearance of characters. What I mean is that we don't need to wait for creating a database of the characters that can be shared. When the bugs will be cleared, this list will serve everyone!

We sure can already share characters, and I've already sent files!

No, the .chr file can be created without you being logged in. I don't see how this could threaten privacy really. And I'm quite the paranoid.

#2. It's possible that that sort of information might be in those files, but I consider it highly unlikely. I also maintain that my account is boring enough that no one would likely want it anyway.

Heck, I'll go ahead and offer Sharreth up, too. I honestly can't think of a nice, unique backstory for her, and I've got ten characters already. It'll take ages for me to play em all.

Figured I'd share this one. She's a Dalish Elf Warrior....without the tattoo (I know, I know ;p). My original intent was to go the dexterity/archery route with her, but oddly, I found it hard to fall in love and ultimately ended up creating other characters

Without the .chr files, isn't it just another thread to post character pictures to then? 

I have also shared .chr files and it soon became evident a lot of characters don't save some features. I ended up having to send a collage of screenshots with all the slider settings.

I was thinking more in terms of the future when characters are made and updated by the full game. I didn't even think about social site identity theft.

I'm all for sharing, I would make all my characters available but I'd rather wait till I can give someone the chr file and they get what they asked for, and give it to them from a reliable source like the nwvault provides for the nwn community.

No, if I assume correctly .chr files are involved. We're just not waiting for a database to be made. If you don't play the character you're sharing, or make a duplicate file (not sure how, but sure there will be a way to copy and rename... does that work?), it should be okay.

Pardon?

The xml and two image files are used by the social site (you may have noticed they only get created once you press the Upload button). The .chr file is the information the CC/game uses to render the character correctly and keep track of their level and skills etc. It is the only file you need to trade in order to share characters. Open it up in a text or hex editor and you can see it references model files, textures and normal maps as well as listing skills etc.

That's a good idea Purple... I was thinking it'd be also quite fun to open a character request thread where one could specifiy how they'd want tne character to look like and others could pop in their suggestions.

Anyways back on subject I'm perfectly willing to share all of the characters in the album below if asked nicely enough in a comprehensive manner (ie no l337) and for a virtual cookie .

Male elves have a better selection of noses imho. Most of the human noses are crooked and or extremely roman, with one exception but htat one exception has a slightly plasticy look to it.
