So at the end of Dragon Age: Origins, some of us were faced with an ending that involved the birth of a child with the powers of an Old God.  With Dragon Age II just announced, not much of the story is known aside from its the tale of Hawke's decade-long rise to power.   My question is, do you all think if this Old God child, who I will refer to as the New God, will play any role in the upcoming sequel?

And yes, I already know Hawke is not the New God.  It's already been proved wrong.

Just another witch of the wilds, maybe you missed the part about Flemmeth's book?

I hope there is no Old God/New God, unless they find a way to import decisions.

It couldn't play a major role unless Bioware wanted to make the ultimate sacrifice non-canon.

Considering that Mr. Priestly has hinted that the 10 years of which the game takes place happens during the blight as well (before the possible Dark Promise ending), I'm going to go ahead and say that the child will have no significant role. At best we may get a Morrigan cameo where she is holding a baby.

Wasn't the ultimate sacrifice ignored in Awakening?

Yes, it was. It seems like the other three endings are retconned in favor of the Dark Ritual one becoming canon.

Much like how Conrad Verner had a gun shoved in his face regardless of how your Shepard handled the situation.

Except, ofcourse, that Verner only had a very minor role in either game, not at all related, or indeed important to the main plot.

So all the decisions from DA will transfer to DA 2 right?

While canonizing anything in a game like Dragon Age is upsetting, I can see why they might want the Dark Ritual as a plot hook.  Still, I wouldn't be happy with that playing a plot-significant role in DA2 on principle.  Either have choices like that affect the game equally for everyone, based on what their specific Warden chose, or let it lie and come up with some reason for the Dark Ritual to not affect the plot.  Canonizing some peoples' endings and not others' is not terribly fair.

Ideally, the Dark Ritual would play a role, but in a tangential way.  Maybe there would be a sidequest linked to it in DA2 where Morrigan turns up.  Never doubt the power of sidequests for including things from DA:O.  And since you're not playing the Warden, she can turn up and hang out with Hawke without running into the Warden again.
