Hello together!

Hitting the frustration border pretty hard the last days since nothing really seems to work out, here my problems I encountered so far. Perhaps someone can give me a useful advice:

Fighting to get my first own class going. But that damned thing will not
show up in the toolset (for assigning the class to a utc-model) after easily making the appropriate files with
the excelprocessor and creating the scripts necessary. No error message
and I can view the files with the gdaAppl. Only one - the
"backgrounds.gda" - shows some irregularity. The class-strings and the
skill-strings in the label row are not shown properly but in some weird
code I cannot understand. Can that be the problem?

I also tried
to get a fire vfx working. But it does not look like the ones in the
game. Especially the distortion I cannot get right. But the flames also
look better in the game vfx. Sadly one cannot open up one of the game
vfx to have a look at their settings. I just would want to make one of
them a little bit smaller to fit into the wallfireplace.

At least
I got area transitions and the first two level layouts working. I have a
window in there where I can see the blackground. But since it is an
interior level, no chance of putting terrain textures there. so either I
have to reproduce the lvl as exterior or I have to come up with
something else (simplest but not most beautiful possibility would be to
remove the window). Or is there another method I am too dumb to think of?

Last but not least I tried to get some
heraldry in the game. But the texture (although I can select it in the
toolset) will not sho up on the shield in the toolset (besides the kite
shield in the toolset is a round one???). I found no tutorials on gimp
so far how to work with the alpha channels and mipmaps, but I have the
dds-plugin.

Any help will ber greatly appreciated.

@ Proleric1: I was already working with te heraldry tutorial, but I cannot fathom what went wrong. I give it another try when I am home from work.

@gtr201: This will be a huge help! Thank you.

If someone still has ideas what I could try or has advice concerning my other problems, please add it here. I will appreciate it.

Thanks to gtr201 I managed to modofy an existing fire vfx. Thanks again!

Now I looked again over the heraldry problem. It seems that for every coat of arms there are three dds-files in DA:O. The tutorial Proleric1 mentioned which I used for my initial attempt just mentioned one dds-file. So I will try to alter the other two dds-files, too. Hopefully this will help. If someone has advice feel free to post it.
