I might be able to endure a PC voice-over if I get to choose full dialogue options (rather than ME-style paraphrases) and the voice-over is a fairly neutral delivery of all lines.

God yes.

I haven't gotten around to that one, yet.  Though I've had it for quite some time.  I bought it based entirely on fan reaction to it.

You should try it out, I think you'd enjoy it immensely.

Speaking of VO, in another thread someone said they didn't like the Witcher because it had a voiced protagonist, but that's not the same. We are given a set protagonist, with a set face and a set background and set everything, we just choose in the game what he can do. It's completely different.

When we are allowed to make the face, the class, we should be able to make the voice, too.

So, you want a voice program to do the voice, but you can change the sound of the voice to your liking... much like in Sims 3?

No. I want a silent protagonist, the same as Dragon Age, perhaps with more emotion in cutscenes.

Choosing your own voice would be very cool, but it's too far fetched atm. Maybe in a decade it would be a plausible idea.

Still the problem is there will always be dialogue moments where my PC doesn't say/react the way I want them to, even with a choice of voices.

I don't. Find it awkward and 'unrealistic'.

The technology already exists, so why wait a decade?

Can't you just imagine the character talking, saying those lines? Don't you ever imagine people talking? I mean, can't you use your imagination? I play a lot of games like Dragon Age or Vampire Bloodlines with the expectation of customisation - that I have the option of completely making up a whole story for my protagonist. I don't want that to go away.

And that technology may exist, but no industry has the time or money to make a whole RPG with, like, three different voices for each gender and race and whatever else. I mean, TOR is apparently doing that, but I am skeptical at best. I bet there will be little VO.

As usual you are wrong.
I can not use my imagination and would love a VO.

Personally i love the idea of a voiced protagonist, it would give a more cinematic experience.

Oh, Arttis, we used to be best buds, such a shame you turned into a poopface.

It's sad you can't apparently use your imagination.

Sad or not the VO will greatly improve my experience.

Viggo Mortenson would fit the image/voice perfectly.

Probably, sadly.

I see no other reason to cut out the other races. (Hell, I was hoping to play as a qunari.)

For texts, it doesn't matter that much. But if it is voiced, it would be overwhelming to make a voiced dialogue for every single race, so it seems that's why we can't have a dwarf or elf named Hawke.

But it's just a logical deduction, not necessarily the real deal. We will see as soon as the first gameplay trailers gets out, I assume.

One thing for sure, if we have a pre-determined character it changes something -actually, the most important thing- we had in the first game: Choices, dialogues, and a character we built up from sratch.

There will be third-person narrative in DA2, it's not necessarily a bad thing, only different. I'm sure it will be an easily enjoyable, intriguing game, and I'm also sure it won't be the DA:O experience again. But the other strenght of DA:O (namely, the world) remains, and that's a good thing. Even if we loose three quarters of the dialogues. :)

I'm looking forward to hearing from the game.

The problem as I see it if they simply have the dialogue choices directly read by the voice actor after they're chosen is that it just seems repetitive. I think that was brought up before with respect to some people wanting a voiced PC in Origins.

It comes down to whether or not they want a third person narrative in DA2 as opposed to a first person one like in Origins. I vastly prefer a first person narrative without a voice actor barging in and taking over the PC in dialogue.

The funny thing is, when you read interviews with Zeschuk or Muzyka on why they went with a voiceless PC in Origins, they explicitly state that they wanted a 1st person narrative and wanted to keep Dragon Age's flavor of RPG separate from ME's style in order to maintain a diverse portfolio of games. Given what little we know so far, it certainly seems like DA2 is more ME than BG.

I personally much prefer the non-voiced PC style. I have no problem "hearing" the voice in my head and it feels just as natural as reading a book.

However, there doesn't need to be a big problem over this. I would implore the Bioware devs to simply have a setting to turn the voice-over off for the PC and viola, it's back to the way I like. I know that the two conversation systems have been thoroughly analyzed over at Bioware, but it should be fairly simple to please customers of both biases by just making it optional.

That would be like muting Mass Effect whenever Shepard talks, you barely have information of what you'll actually say.

Obviously, a setting to disable the PC's voiceover would also enable full-length response selection as in DA:O. That isn't difficult given that it's just a printout of the script. If they're going to go through the significant expense of recording a voiced PC, this is the least they can do for the players who prefer the voiceless dialogue. It's not as if that system lacks merit, after all.
