Random PUGS rarely work well with anybody, regardless of gender.

I don't think that is quite the argument:

I play L4D2 all the time, and I haven't found
many players in my league. From what I've noticed, playing on Halo,
Modern warfare, etc. is that there are a lot of good female shooters out
there, they mostly turn off their headsets however due to the
overwhelming harassment.

I don't believe one gender is better than another, but there are more women who play L4D2 compared to the other FPS multiplayer. I don't know if it has anything to do with working together, but I imagine it is because there is less harassment on those games. Whenever its encountered, my team will generally kick people off left and right. Its generally unaccepted, and people aren't too keen on it compared to Modern Warfare & Halo.

Just off the top onmy head with a quick Google search this is one of many concerning my statement that has demanded a citation.

Apparently someone got a little testy are they new?

Why assume I'm being testy? I just wanted a source...

After reading the link though, it doesn't say what your post says and actually confirms what I was thinking about when I read your post.  It's not that one sex or the other operates better as a team, they just approach the challenge in different ways.

I think it is because games like Left 4 Dead are more intimate usually games of 4 vs 4 or in my case i do not play versus of Left 4 Dead under any circumstances, campaign is a 4 player coop where you MUST rely on the person next to you or it is literally game over. I am Asai on steam if you want a no nonsense game i am always looking for people who understand the TEAM concept. Just yell i have Left 4 Dead one and two as well as TF2 and little tolerance for the chickie chickie nonsense.

When it comes to completeing the goal in the context of L4D my statement is backed up buy the link i provided. There is less ego involved, more willingness to just do what has to be done with women players, the flexibility to adapt to the changes the situation may require. These are all the reasons i listed as to why i think women shooters are much easier to shoot with so in the context of my post and the examples i provided as to the position i staked out the link accurately defends my position. If you would like to discuss the issue in greater detail sure thing but in the context of my original post the link should be sufficient.

Also realise, just from my own experiance. Hardly anything I would state as fact. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if women were naturally better at games then men.

Lol, hate to say it, but as an Anthropology student I've come to learn just how much better the fairer sex is at most things.

I fear the day they figure out how to create sperm in a lab. That is the day women take over the world. MARK MY WORDS!

Whilst I wouldn't subscribe to the opinion 'women are better at most thngs' as it's clearly untrue.

They do have the rpg genre locked down.

It's nurture rather than purely gender...women are taught from birth to multitask and their lives are enriched as a result.

For example...women can get all the kids fed and watered, dressed and off to school.House cleaned,Hoovered, washing in the machine..listen to Jeremy Kyle on TV and decide on lunch menu....all whilst the MMO patch is downloading. Then sit down with a brew and play their game with their heartbeat remaining below 90 throughout the whole ordeal.....at the same time formulate a plan to manipulate their menfolk into doing their bidding.

Men ..well men fix things, do as they are told and have a great off switch feature when the circuits overload.

As for creating sperm in the lab.....it isn't going to happen.Women taking over the world..well that wouldn't be a bad thing now would it ?

It's a really good book if you're keen on methodology. It rather left me with the distinct impression that the commonly held beliefs about gender psychology exist largely for the purposes of selling books on the subject.

I also checked the source on both studies which lead me to a dead end page. I'll need a better source than that before i buy that 40% of gamers are female.

Again, 30 seconds of google, both sources:

2004
2009

This is just not belelivable, 40% is ridicolous and don't think they holding a strict enough view on What a gamer is
Lots of people may own a playsation but the actual  amount that play them and buy games often is a totally diffrent thing.

No, You have a wrong definition of Sterotyping.
A stereotype is a commonly held public belief about specific social
groups, or types of individuals.

In this case - Only boys buy videogames. We will market to the boys.

The concepts of "stereotype" and
"prejudice" are often confused with many other different meanings.Your confusing it with Core Demographic.  ... If Bioware Believed all there Male demographic were nerds who lived in there parents basment that woulld be sterotypeing in marketing. Believing that there a fewer Female gamers than males is not sterotyping

Untrue.

"For example, stereotype marketing ideologies might focus too much on one
group and ignore another equally, or even more important. For example,
target only kids for (non-PC) video games and lose access to millions of
customers. Nearly a quarter of all video games are purchased by
consumers aged 40 and older, and 38% of all video game sales are made by
women."
Source

1. I don't see any Ingame screenshots, and as i said b4 the game is 4months from release, the site is SUbject to change as the game get's closer to release.

I certainly hope so.

2.Once again were 4 months away I think they'll put up more screenshots closer to release, in order to generate hype.

I certainly hope so.

3. I don't know Biowares marketing strategy, but i'm almost certain they will put up more screens  and maybe videos of femhawke closer to release.  but if they don't, they have a reason not to other than they don't care about females. They care about sales that's it.

If they don't, they are neglecting their market.

I'm suggesting sales could improve if they showed some videos or were more clear you can alter the gender.

I'm speaking from my personal experience, and from the experience of my friends.

Your confusing Target demographic with Sterotyping, Their main audience is males, no matter who they market to most sales will be to Males. That's just how it is.

Focusing on one market isn't Automatically Sterotype in marketing,
You don't sell tanning lotion to black people
You don't sell toys to adults
You don't sell video games to girls
It's just trying to get to the audience who make up the majiorty of your sales.
and Once again this source is hard to go by because we can't say what it's including. 38% is a extremeley high number, and im willing to bet  not even 10% of DAO sales were to women.

to your 3: Were still 4 months away it's a bit premature to say their alienating your market completley when they've only put out about 16 screen shots total.
The site is subject to chane in order to generate hype.

Why is 40% ridiculous?  Every single female I know, from my 76 year old mother to my 9 year old daughter (my older daughter plays as well - I just wanted an age range in there), plays video games. All of the friends of my kids play video games -- boys and girls.  Of my friends, everyone plays video games; some prefer puzzle games, most prefer cRPG, some like card games, some like FPS...  but women gamers, even middle aged women, are not a rarity.

Edit; And while I know that anecdote does not equal data, I can't believe that the people I know are so far outside the norm.

Second edit; most adult women I know do play on a computer, not a console.

Oddly enough, the most games I see women buy are FPS games & party gmes like Rockband, nothing as "in depth" or story driven as Dragon Age or Mass Effect.

A more specific study that includes a more strict term of what Female gamers constitute.
Plenty of people buy wii's and xbox's. That dosen't mean they buy a game every week and is likley to pick up a game like dragon age.
My Niece has a ps2 and a wii but hasn't picked up any games for it in over a year.

My mom loves it.  My child is not allowed to play it :)  Many of my friends play it, though I'm the only person I know who posts here.  A PTA mom recommended it to me.

In truth, DAO actually caters to women to a huge extent.  We have our own stories, we have romances that are believable.  I have no clue of the actual demographics of the players of DAO -- I suspect women are more likely not to reveal their gender in the question which asks for general information.

OT, mandatory Age of Conan/friend plug:  Spoken like someone who has never gone on a patented Posey PUG ™.  Available on Cimmeria server, to this day I believe - though I haven't talked to him much since I stopped playing.  The guy is a legend and has geared out most of the server.

Interestingly, the best approaches in those circumstances - granted the vast majority of participants in such events are male - is to take the "male approach" from that link earlier.  Give people limited, highly specialized responsibilities and ask them to perform.   I don't think that's indicative of anything in particular though, just an isolated example where one style is more effective and if I was going to say it's a result of anything, its that class-based games demand that approach.   I haven't played L4D, but given what I know about it I can see how the "female approach" - such as it is - can be ideal.

Well then your mom is probaly a rarity, and your probaly a good parent.

But i'm just saying that 40% includes Wii fit and guitar hero, Which is popular in the female gaming market but what i would call hardcore games like dragon age, not so much.
