You actually nailed it on the head. Buoware DOES owe  me and many others a working game (and expansion). Yanno, we kinda paid for it.
:innocent:

This, of course, without even needing to go into deontological arguments on how much a company owes to it's customers. That's beyond the point.

Did they force you to buy it and not get your money back after you discovered the bugs? was there blunt objects or sexual favours involved?

Thats... irrelevent and pretty stupid. No he wasn't forced to buy it but he chose to and as such is in his legal right to get refunded or given a working replacement should the product be faulty.

Still waiting on patch 1.04 bioware :P TBH I haven't suffered many problems myself so I can wait personally.

Except the products are playable to completion, and I'm sure people have "consumed" it several times already.

Like asking for a refund on a box of cookies even though you ate all three boxes you bought.

Yeah duh I completed it. There are people who can't play the game at all. Those are the poor sods I was talking about :P

Weapon customization in ME was great fun. I guess people are just more into games that don't require thinking now.

Bull****, the only thing good about the customization was the ammo system. That was fun.

According to you. And even considering your point of view, that system was still better than NO customization at all.
Systems that are not yet perfect can be improved upon, instead of simply removing them because the developer doesn't want to bother.

Ammo was the only thing where there wasnt always a clear "best" for a specific weapon, and even then there usually was.

Assault Rifles? Heat Sink.

Shotguns? Rail Extension with Hammerhead rounds.

Sniper Rifles? Rail Extension with High Explosive rounds.

I would sacrifice a minor system in order to implement proper feel to the weapons

"feel?" what do you mean with "feel" other than a pretty meaningless catchword?

Also, customization and equipment variety has never been a "Minor" system in RPGs.

And I did like those Mako missions too. At least you had some side exploration to do in ME. Now all you get in ME2 is rubbing your mouse cursor around on a sphere.

You seem to be forgetting that for many (me included), Dragon age and/or Awakenings still are NOT playable to completion, due to costant crashes to desktop that occur at most every five minutes. This, of course, wihout mentioning the several tens of glitches, quest bugs and results of sloppy testing that plague the game.

You should have found a way to return it then.

*sigh* Guys, you are forgetting one important fact here. Bioware is owned by EA, and EA is only a step up from Activision when it comes to milking the cash cow.

I'm already aware of EA's rep unfortunately. UGG. They take good games and just squeeze as much money out of them as possible, trashing it in the process.

Like the Sims. They rarely bother with fixing bugs in the game...but they can sure churn out a ton of DLCand spend a huge amount of time trying to find ways to thwart the modding community.

Why do people think that BioWare with Microsoft as their publisher was any better?

You give a voice to the people and all they do with their vocal freedom is complain about things they hardly have any grasp on.

Two words: "Digital Download"

Sorry, but a developer is entirely responsible towards the many that can't enjoy a product they paid for on rigs that are above the required specs.
A short trip to the technical issues forums will let you understand just how wrong your position is.

People seem too quick to forget (or simply don't know) how many bugs and issues old games like Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 or KOTOR had. I wouldn't be so quick pointing finger towards EA or any publisher.

A short trip to a game developer that no longer develops for the PC because of the technical issues you mention will let you understand just how useless your whining is at this point.

Why blame the publisher at all for bugs? I mean, isn't fixing bugs part of the development process, and as such the responsibility of the developer?

Sure, we can blame EA for lousy marketing and rushing releases and what have you not, but I'm sorry, not fixing bugs is BioWare's responsibility.

And which developers would you be referring to?

Sorry to burst a bubble, but PC development is plenty profitable to many developers, and that's why they still develop for the platform:
- No royalties. Each game sold on PC means higher net revenue, since there are no royalties to be paid to first parties and no certification fees.
- Widespread digital download. Each copy sold on DD for PC means higher net revenue, since the publishing costs are much lower.

Dragon Age sold more on PC than on any other platform, so let's not try and painting Bioware as the heroic last man standing that still develops on PC against all odds. They do so because it's profitable, not to do us a favor.

They chose to develop on PC (it's not doctor's orders), and doing that they take upon themselves the responsibility to make their game work on every configuration above the minimum requirements. There's simply no excuse for this not to happen.

Honestly Yathzee is the very last person that should criticize anyone for complaining, since he built his own liveihood on delirious, hateful rants (probably fueled by pure, unadultered envy since he never made it into game development) of which only 5% make any sense anyway.

I think the problem is that people are nitpicking and blowing it way out of proportion, the only feature that we know for sure now is that we've lost is the ability to select our race, which to be honest is a small thing, in almost every other game bar DA:O race is a mostly insignificant thing which dictates only your appearance and a handful of dialogue choices. Even in DA:O is amounted to a little bit more, a handful of missions and the way a handful of NPCs react to you. In return we get a whole new game a good 6 months before we expected it!! I don't know about you but i wasn't expect anything till at least October next year. As for saying they should fix the current game before releasing the next one, thats not how software companies work they usually leave only a much smaller team to do maintenance so the bulk can make new stuff for us to buy!! Which i'm sure the vast majority of us are grateful for.

If something in a game bothers you, just do the MST3K mantra and you may feel better. Also, why are we complaining about something that has barley any information given about it.

Here's all we know:

1. You play as a refugee named Hawke.

2. It takes place after either the Blight from DA:O or the fourth Blight.

3. It's going to take place over a decade.

4. Much of the game engine is getting an overhaul, especially combat system.

5. It takes place in a different area in Thedas.

So, I would suggest holding back the bile a bit until we know more.

Honestly I don't see getting a game earliers as a bargaining chip of any value. The gaming market produces plenty content (even too much, really, my "to play" pile of games is 19 "boxes" tall on all platforms currently, not including Awakenings that I cannot play since it crashes once every 5 inutes), and whether Dragon Age 2 is released at the beginning or at the end of 2011 it doesn't really matter.
Quite the contrart, I'd rather see it come later with more content and more polish, than see it come earlier but dumbed down and full of bugs/issues just again because it's been rushed to the market.

Gran Turismo 5 has been several years in development, but it will have so much content to enjoy that it's value will be several times superior to it's price. Sure, we had to wait a long time for it, but it's not like there wasn't anything else to play while we waited.

6. You can only play as human.

When they say a game is coming out sooner than thought...that means it is being rushed in most cases. Expect tons of bugs and lots of cut content.

Err... I got two titles that poke a hole in that: Too Human, and Duke Nukem: Forever.
