Err... I got two titles that poke a hole in that: Too Human, and Duke Nukem: Forever.

I don't see how those could poke a hole in that (and you could add Alan Wake, since you're at it). Whether a game is great or poor, a longer development time won't *reduce* it's value (unless it's actual  vaporware, but that's a whole different matter), it can only increase it as more content gets added and more rounds of polish are done.
If Too Human was poor after a long time in development, you can only imagine how disastrous it would have been if they cut that development time shorter.

I honestly don't see why the human angle is such a big deal to some blokes.

Because being able to chose one's race is one of the staples of classic western RPGs (besides adding a lot of potential for variation both in gameplay and story). Being the "heir" to classic RPGs has been one of the major advertising points of the Dragon Age franchise, and the very reason many of us are here.

It's just the nature of the crazed fan. Anything goes against their perfect caricature that they've created in their mind and they're going to rage. Rage, I tell you!

I doubt the devs made this announcement without full expectation of an impending apocalypse as a result, but it's got to be a little disappointing for them to see these eruptions based on nothing but a few lines of text and a couple of concept art pages - it's like no matter how good or bad the changes Bioware make is irrelevent: if it's change it's bad!!!!!!

I'm not going to damn them or defend them just yet - I'll reserve my opinion for when I actually see something.

I think this more of we're mad at the world and we're focusing our anger on something. Not really therapeutic, but it helps.

I'm saving my definitive opinion until more facts come out and we see an actual trailer, but Bioware isn't starting on a very good foot by telling us that we can only play humans. I have nothing against playing as a human (hell my first chara was a Cousland), but taking away the choice and variety is a serious let-down.

I guess we all expected DA2 to be like ME2 in that it would be a, if not a direct, continuation of Origins, in all of its aspects. And imported characters.

Here's the deal, my first reaction was almost outrage, but then I calmed down a bit and basically kinda told myself what you wrote - maybe I should trust bioware. But then I went over some of the things they wrote again and you know what, unless the do a 180 on some of them, it's gonna be disappointing to some extent no matter how good the game is.

An almost complete break from the story of origins - obviously we know few details but it seems that at best the tie ins to the origins story will be "token" (i.e. to satisfy the rabid fans as it were). I don't actually mind so much losing my character as such, I just think that if you're building a world (which is what they're doing) you have to tie the pieces together.

Playing as one character - I said this twice already and I will keep saying this either until DA2 comes or until the devs tell us they've changed their minds - I want more meaningful and deeper origins, not less of them, and certainly not cutting them out. This was the most unique element of the game, at least for me, and in fact without it DA:O would've been nothing more than a "pretty but dumb" cousin of Baldur's Gate.

Protagonist of Planescape: Torment. I'd say the best CRPG ever, feel free to disagree though.

Well said, my friend (OP). I like Shepard and I like it more than a silent protagonist. That's my personal opinion. I am absolutely stoked for this game and I'll see what they make of it. If I don't like something, I'll just write it up in a review or something. What's the use of whining already? Just play Dragon Age part one and enjoy it.

And I do disagree. While planescape Torment had some really nice points, I know many that didn't appreciate it as much as they could have. I'm one.

Why is that? The inability to form an emotional connection with the main character.
This says it all.

Yay Kaiser Shepherd! My thoughts exactly.

We've seen a press release and some artwork. Once they start feeding us more information I think people will see it's not the apocalyptic Roland Emmerich disaster movie they've been in hysterics over and go "oh, it IS still Dragon Age." Have hope friends!

Ah yes, I thought you were referring to a member of the board. Guess that must be The Angry One's fault... Image IPB

I am giving it a chance. Im just waiting for Bioware to say that this hawke guy is being voiced or that the dialogs will be like Mass effect. Then I am going to ignore this game.

They announced a sequel to a game and the only information they give us is that they are taking away features that were in the previous game. Pretty ridiculous.

Just like how Mass Effect 2 "took away features that were in the precious game", but actually streamlined those and made everything easier to understand and use?

there has literally never been a bioware announcement that people haven't raged over.

its just the nature of raging, people are very comfortable raging over stuff that they can't own yet. since everyone knows this is a year away, its like personal therapy to vent the rage out. it serves no real purpose other than self expression.

How very true.

Oh well, I suppose it's time to stop being such a hardass myself and get Awakening. I've raged at that for far too long.

I appreciate your sentiment Kaiser Shepard. but unfortunately there will always exist the "I'm such a BioWare fan that I hate all their Announcements" sort of fan. In any case, most of the posters here are posting their concerns about DAO2, and as such, could you all kindly move over to a more established thread please?
