It was probably that Manson song that got me interested in the game at all

but now that I'm hooked they can stick with something a little more epic this time

Wow I just watched the manson trailer. Holeeeeeee-crap that was bad. Bioware, you are my favourite dev ever, you don't need to do cheesy, tasteless mass-market ads like this. Keep it classy.

Wow, people are actually dissing the trailer just because of the Manson track.

Frankly, everyone I showed it to thought it was awesome. And that very trailer got 7 friends of mine to purchase the game.

So I have NO idea what's wrong with using it for advertising.

I like Metal, but good God, leave it out of Dragon Age. For a traditional fantasy game (it may have more blood, but it is still traditional), Manson made no sense at all to me.

heavy metal lovers of course get interested by it, but me and my friends nearly ignored it because the manson stuff freaked us out, we feared the ingame music would be similar too

Even though Bioware heavily stressed that it would have NO place in the game? And the in game music would sound nothing like it?

If you knew that, you shouldn't care what they played for the ads.

My point is that they draw us in with the story and what not, but to bring in a bigger audience(like my 7 buddies) they need to appeal to them, and Manson sure as hell helped.

Why not just... ya know... have multiple ads with different music again?

Seemed to work pretty well before.

One should have Skunk Anansie so the wee children can hear some proper rage but I digress...

Maybe the sequel will have metal IN the game. Because Warrior Within was the best Prince of Persia game...right?

I agree with that, nothing beats clasical music doh, imagine all the bloodbath I can do while listening to Mozart, Liszt, or Beethoven, would also make for an awesome trailer

1812 Overture did make for a pretty epic destruction scene in V for Vendetta...

Not a Marilyn Manson fan I see. But I do agree with your point.

By the way, calling his work "Metal" is about as unmetal as you possibly can be.

Manson does not equal metal, thank you for recognizing this.
Behemoth? That is metal. But I feel this game needs some Eluveitie or maybe some power metal. Kiuas, perhaps.
And also... Nightwish is not metal either. Nor is Metallica (not anymore, anyway). Dio would also be great.
Other great bands like Rhapsody of Fire have also been mentioned. Revocation is a great rising metal band.
And killersheep24? EMO DOES NOT EQUAL METAL. Dear GOD, how many people have percieved this is absolutely, RIDICULOUSLY UN-be-FRIGGIN-LIEVABLE.
What kind of music DO you listen to? Because, the only real music left now IS metal. There's rap, where EVERY song sounds EXACTLY the same, techno, where nothing ever happens unless you find the magical 1 in 10000000 band that actually uses a keyboard and synthesizer for something coherent, and pop which is all fake and over-produced. I mean... really? What other music is still REAL and still FITS anything as epic as Dragon Age OTHER than classical/soundtrack music besides metal? I mean, after all, metal's original roots are a mix of blues/jazz, the aggressiveness of the African drum, and most of all? classICAL MUSIC.

I'm curious, how is Nightwish "not metal?" At least when they had Tarja, they fit the definition of Symphonic Power Metal, and even after her departure, there's little reason to say that they no longer play in that genre. Yes they have had a couple poppy songs/ballads, but not enough to discredit their classification.

And yes, Marilyn Manson plays shock rock, for all those who are confused. And bands like Killswitch Engage/Atreyu/As I Lay Dying are metalcore, which is not a subgenre of metal - their music has roots in the hardcore scene as opposed to genuine metal.

Manson's closest musical relatives are probably Alice Cooper and W.A.S.P. I would say.

I agree, the violence trailer for DA1 blew. It made the graphics look even more horribly dated than they were.

If DA2's trailers are half as cinematic as, say Mass Effect 2's [yep i said it] LAUNCH TRAILER, then they will be pure unadulterated awesomesauce, unlike DA1's garbage trailers.

i have to agree with the op.

for me, i really disliked it. probably because i thought it was going to be 'traditional/fantasy' instrumental music.

you know, your lotr soundtracks or something like BG. the tune just gives me the chills.

No, Sands of Time was the best PoP. WW was a brutal game that hasn't anything to do with the 1001 nights theme of PoP and thats why also J.Mechner wasn't pleased about it.

In my opinion the kind of metal music that people want here doesn't allow space for deep emotions. It is much more only a booster for aggression.

Here's the new advertissing theme song
Gaider told me privatly.

hmm seriously i don't really care.. i though the big heavy metal was out of context for a rpg .. Being original don't mean you're right .. But does not mean either that you try to be different.Anyway i'm not a marketing expert.

No good stuff, because wiki articles are written by ordinary users with no academical or deeper knowledge about the subject.

Just no more MM.
And for the record, he is NOT heavy metal.

They should hire Blind Guardian. <3
They made a song for Sacred 2.

Yea, no heavy metal in advertising OR slipping it in the credits. It just does not belong.

I don't know, whenever I hear Holy Thunderforce these days I see my DA:O playthrough in my head.

So, yeah, things like Rhapsody, Drangonforce, Blind Guardian etc, etc - that would make great music for a DA trailer! Not that I didn't like MM, I did, but this is better.

In the end didn't DA just have one track from 30 seconds to mars? More likely we will see something similar to DA's original soundtrack, than pulling the same old marketing crap.
