Well, they had polearms in Jade Empire. I suppose it could be a different category, but my money is on two-handed sword, I'm afraid...

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of too. But we'll see. We don't even know if they're included.

We don't know what the combat system will be like either. Though I'd be surprised if they limited the skills/categories to what's in DA and A.

Of course, we will be able to choose how he fights. Its confirmed he can be a mage.

But I'm going to stick to whatever class allows polearms.

So, warrior, quite possibly rogue?

I hope polearms get their own talents, and aren't shoe-horned in the two-handed weapon category.

Warrior most likely. But we'll see. I went Sword and Shield in DAO, but with Polearms available, I'd gladly head in that direction.

And i agree. I'd much rather they have their own talents than be shoe-horned into the two-handed category.

I am afraid of that show-horned into the 2handed tree, I read a thread about a month ago that jokingly talked about replacing 2 hand weapons with polearms

I'm pretty sure it's a Hewing Spear, a special Viking spear with a widened blade for greater slashing capabilities. It can't be a glaive because it looks like it is double-edged.

I wouldn't replace them. Just put polearms into a separate tree.

Whatever it is, it's 'more dynamic' with 'intense action'.

:D

They should have made the PC's last name 'Power' so I could call him 'Max'.

Maybe make some new trees altogether? Apart from dual wield, two-handed, ranged and shield you could have polearms, unarmed (with massive fatigue penalties), throwing and single-weapons?

No to throwing(unless its for rogues), unarmed would just be dumb, but I am behind single weapons.

Still, they'd have to REALLY work on it to make sure they can justify why someone wouldn't carry a shield or bigger weapon.

Whatever the weapon is, aleast it has more room for thrusting with the longer shaft.

The thing is, there's cutting, slashing, and piercing.

You can pierce with it(the polearm he's wielding), and cut with it, but slashing's going to be a doozy unless they know how to animate it.

If we are going to have polearms I would love to see a variation as in a scythe would be very welcomed. I though we missed out on in origins for not having some weapon variety there are only so many ways to package a hammer, axe, and sword... imo. I mean they did go and give an achievo called grim reaper so lets see a scythe or is it just me?

Here, here. I love scythes. I wish more fantasy games had them, since they're my favorite weapon.

There is just something incredibly nice about playing a rogue who uses one of these. Instead of a "backstab", it more like "surprise decapitation".

Hawke seems to always use some kind of sword. Warrior uses a 2h sword. Rogue uses dual swords. Mage uses a sword-staff. I'm expecting swordchucks as DLC.

Its quite a unique weapon. The closest i think it could resemble is a swordstaff/partisan/ox tongue spear of elongated blade and shortened pole. And btw glaives are classified by a single curved blade and more often than not a hook on the back of the blade for catching riders. Either way it is a class of polearm as are all of these examples.

Well, the sword-staff for mages is like the Swedish polearm, svardstav. It's a two edged sword blade mounted on a 6ft pole. The "pole" part in the sword-staves in DA2 seem shorter, however.

sadly it seems there is nothing new along the lines of weapon choices in DA2... only less choices alltogether

don't be shocked / by the tone of my voice
it's the new weapon / weapon of choice

(you can go with this / you can go with that)

What? Nobody else has a brain that's indexed using the song lyric system?
