Evil Chris made a post this morning saying they still had DLC for DAO in development, whether it's DLC that will do what you want it to is another matter, but, at least there's hope for people who want this.

If the story for DA:2 is completly different from DA:O than there is no reason why they can't just keep expanding both games at the same time. Play one game the experiance the wardens story and the other game for this new story.

My problem with that line of thought is that, it usually doesn't happen that way with games. When the next game comes out, the first one is usually left as is with more patch updates or so on.

This is what concerns me, and this is what I think is going to happen. Keep up with the latest edition or get left behind...

Does not seem like we will get much in the way on continuation for DAO at the moment. Seems more like the new game will be ME2 based. Bringing on a main character means a trilogy with a longer story. DAO is looking more like a stand alone at this point in time because of that. Personally I was hoping they were going to choose to continue the story as Awakenings didn't really end it in a satisfying way for my character as the new party stunk and I was separated from my old with no closure.
