Wouldn't that make him a Fereldan? I mean the Blight never made it out of the country. I know it is easy to make up some way he would wind up in some other part of Thedas. Yet it just does not seem right. Are we 100% shore it was the Blight that was the tragedy he survived? The main site just says “You are one of the few who escaped the destruction of your home”. I'm hoping it is not purely for storyline.
So if Hawke is a survivor of the Blight?

A number of sites say he/she is a refugee, which would explain why they end up in another country.

There was also a civil war going on as well so there are plenty of things that could drive you out of your home and most likely when the dangers ceased Hawke and his/her parents were settled down.. or he could of ran away himself. Too early at this point.

its been confirmed its the blight, love around for dev posts on the front page, several of them state it. Its also likely the "New land" is the Free Marches. the nation directly north of Ferelden. Not very strage if Hawke came from a northern village and just had to cross the border to get into the next country
