PURE SPECULATION!
My guess is that you play as morrigan's son/daughter.  the blight wipes out your town because you have the essence of the archdemon and the darkspawn is drawn to it.  Everywhere your character goes the blight follows.  You find out in the game that you are "responsible" for many people dying because of your blight.  You choose to either use the darkspawn horde to conquer the world or sacrifice your life to stop the blight.

thats what I think.

I'm hoping it will be exactly what I picture Conan the Barbarian to be after a fuzzy image of how the short stories were like and how the films were like.

You can't be the son or daughter, which was confirmed by devs and common sense because you are a blight survivor and how can you survive a blight if you weren't born yet?

Like others have said the time line doesn't match up for playing a Godchild as the PC, however it isn't mentioned just how old Hawke was at the time of the blight, the game might actually open up several years later. So it's possible you will still have the GC as a party member or antagonist.

Warden get's killed but is ressurected via a secret procedure that Avernus (sp?) came up with....



the warden is rebuilt...better then ever..but get's all glowy and evil eyed if he is in a bad mood....



he has to stop the Darkspawn from kidnapping entire human towns.....which takes him deep into the ground to the Darkspawn secret lair...but before going he'll have to conscript the best-of-the-best to fight with him..because it may just be a suicide mission.....



in the ending splash we'll see MILLIONS of new Darkspawn waking up...eyes glowing "warden" style as they look out over the huge chasm where they were sleeping....queue epic symphony music.
