Looking for official word on canon?

There seems to be a lot of assumptions going around, so I just wanted to ask(maybe Chris or someone can answer) two simple yes or no questions:

Is there an official word yet on whether DA2 makes canonic assumptions? (yes or no would suffice, don't need to know what, if you've got a link to something I've missed even better!)

If the answer to the previous question is yes, is there a planned save file transfer feature for any purpose at all?(even free bonus DLC or something like that?)

Again, just yes or no from some official source, I'd just love to know. Folks seem to be under a lot of different impressions regarding these two questions but as far as I can tell there aren't any answers yet.

Thanks for you time!

Yeah, I don't think it spoils anything to give us a yes or no on that so let's hope they respond!

@2papercuts:
That's one of the assumptions I've heard, but when I played awakening with my warden(and alistair had sacrificed himself) the codex still said I'd turned Morrigan down and Alistair died. So I don't know where people are getting that. I couldn't find any other references to Urthemiel's mortal rebirth, so I honestly have no idea what people are talking about when they say Awakening makes that assumption.

Seriously, does anyone have a link or anything about the DR being canon from an actual BW source? Why do so many gosh darn people seem convinced of this as fact?

Even choosing the DR option I still barely noticed anything in Awakening pointing toward the DR being canon.

@Phazor that's what I thought, there's only the codex entries and they seem ripped from the transferred game... So what is everyone talking about?

Ooh, but the Warden does have "companions," just like The Doctor! Necessary DAO DLC: Tom Baker scarf for the warden.

Seconded!

To answer your question about assumed canon, I think the reason why so many point to the ritual being such is for those who begin a new game in Awakening with an Orlesian Warden. Alistair is king, though I can't recall if there is any mention of what happened to the 'Hero of Ferelden' that your PC in Dragon Age: Origins would have been.

I'd love to know the answer to this post, and have to compliment you on being well-articulated in posing it.

@m0nachus: Thankee kindly, ma'am.

If you play as the Orlesian warden(and don't transfer a save) does the codex for Morrigan say the dark ritual was completed?

Hawke could tell a little child the story of the blight with the player choosing from responses to get his version of DAO into the game.

I'd prefer this.  Something like KOTOR2's method of establishing the protagonist from KOTOR.

Dark Ritual will be canon, anyone trying to deny it at this point is just fooling himself.

I'd be more concerned as to the Architect surviving being canon or not.

@Kaiser Shepard: Again, where are you getting this? I don't understand what evidence people have for this claim and would love to be filled in. I'm ignorant here, not fooling myself— I'm not arguing against DR being cannon, I just want to know why people are saying it is. I haven't seen any evidence of DR being accepted canon except for people on this forum saying so.

Actually a DR canon would suck.
The point of the DR is to stay alive, not to die, and if the Warden is dead in DA2, then he better didn't spawn some ancient evil before his death. I cannot accept a 'the warden was an idiot' canon.

@Alex: I don't feel a particular way, either way is fine with me, it just seems as though a great many people seem convinced that something in Awakening indicated Urthemiel's rebirth was canon... And at least one forum goer indicated that an "official source at bioware" confirmed, though he could not provide a link. And owning Awakening, playing awakening, I see no such indication.

So I would just really love it if someone can let me in on the koolaid they've been drinking, where they got this information, etc. I don't think DR's canonicity would be awesome or sucktacular, I just want to know!

I wouldn't hope for a revealing explanation from the BioWare staff for a while if I were you, not until they release the Game Informer review. Because of media contracts and whatnot reasons.

The new doctor is starting to grow on me, so I wouldn't mind seeing a bow-tie or a bowl of custard with fish fingers.

Yeah, I'm more curious about the Architect myself, he didn't have much screen time in Awakening despite the way he was kind of portrayed as the main antagonist.

And what happened with that Dalish chick's sister? She joins you just to search for her and then her sister just sort of disappears until the end and there's no other story involving her. Or did I miss that particular character quest, I didn't get many of them, only one I can remember is Ander's character quest.
