So there is about a week until we learn more information about DA:2 in Game Informer.
Why is that?
Why not now?
Surely Bioware could have kept this reveal underwraps for another week?
Well they didn't and here is why.
Bioware knew rpg fans would be upset over not continuing their Warden, lack of old companions, not playing as an Elf or Dwarf, not having multiple origin stories, and having a voiced Main Character.
They also knew that rpg fans are extremely paranoid about change in mechanics and wearily expect any new game to have a number of things dumbed down in order to appeal to the mass market.
As an example Bioware knew that they would focus on buzz phrases like "fight like spartans" "Dynamic new combat mechanics" as evidence of an erosion of the existing system and completely ignore phrases like 'Think like a general".
So the plan was to announce the changes to the main protagonist while leaving details on combat sparse as possible. That way imaginations would run wild about the game being a repeat of Mass Effect 2 and the solidification of Bioware as producers of Action games, not true RPGs.
Game Informer will then reveal information about DA:2's combat, which will be changed, but still similar in spirit to the original system. Everyone will begin to believe their gripes with the game aren't as bad as they imagined, minor, and silly compared to what is actually in game.
Then criticism of the game will die down INCLUDING criticism of the lack of continuation of the Warden, lack of old companions, lack of racial chocies, lack of multiple origins, and a voiced main character. I AM on to you Bioware!

I'd say if it was planned, it was done more so to drive up Game Informers sales, if you notice 90% of the dev posts in this forum promote it.
