Hawke just make me think of spitting. Maybe it's a regional slang. They could have come up with anything better than that.

Silliness aside, I've occassionally used the name "Nathaniel Locke" in a few Renaissance/Pirate themed settings. As far as I'm concerned, "Nathaniel Hawke" is an acceptable little deviation.
That was the PC's name in Pirates of the Caribbean, a.k.a. Bethesda's Sea Dogs 2.

Bob Hawke - 23rd Prime Minister of Australia
Ethan Hawke - actor, writer and film director
Mykel Hawke - U.S. Army Special Forces Veteran
John Hawke - urban artist
Alex Hawke - Liberal Member of Parliament in north-western metropolitan Sydney
There are so many I just can't decide.
