I wish they had just a random NPC named "Hawke" when The Warden from Origins travel to Lothering from Ostagar.

That would be quite weird, since Hawke can be both male and female, and it would be quite weird if the NPC was a man, while your DA2 Hawke would be a woman. It would be if someone in Lothering would've talked about him though.

It would have been better (in a Lord Foreshadow sort of sense) if you ran across the mother and sister on the road and they mentioned that their sibling/child was scouting ahead or something. :D

Yeah, something like that. Since I feel like it's blank to have a guy named "Hawke" in Lothering although you haven't seen or heard about the guy in Origins.

Lothering wasn't just the little street you visited, there were other houses behind the Chantry and down the small river

Um, not sure if it really needs saying, since I already thought it was pretty obvious anyway, but Mike Laidlaw confirmed that Witch Hunt didn't complete Morrigan's story at all. The link: http://social.biowar...24&lf=8#4982544

I'm assuming that means that we should eventually hear more about *SPOILER* the land beyond the fade, the OGB, and maybe even the present she gives the warden at the end, but that's just an assumption.

I feel quite limited to know that we can only play as Hawke! I prefered making my own characters!

If you think about it, all Bioware games limit you to playing a character with a single role.

In the Baldur's Gate series, you're the Bhaalspawn.

In Neverwinter Nights, you're the Hero of Neverwinter.

In KOTOR, you're a... very, very important Jedi. (Don't want to spoil that in case someone here hasn't played KOTOR yet)

In Jade Empire, you're the last Spirit Monk.

In Mass Effect, you're Commander Shepard.

In Dragon Age, you're the Warden that saves Ferelden from the Fifth Blight (regardless of whether or not you sacrifice yourself or even take the final blow, you're one of the main people moving events along).

Now, all of these games allowed you to customize the character in some way and make choices that shape the story and how others react to you. Granted, some of these games offered you more options in character creation - such as different playable races - but in the end, you're still in the same role, though your approach to fulfilling that role is determined by your actions. Except for Commander Shepard (who has a predetermined basic personality - you just choose from possible options available to his/her personality), they all allow - within innate limitations of a video game RPG and a linear storyline - a certain degree of the player shaping who/what that hero is, as a person.

I fail to see how Hawke is any different. I completely understand people being saddened by the restriction to human-only for creation, however... That has little effect on our ability to shape who Hawke is as a person. And it's hardly the first time Bioware's limited the character creation options to human only. In fact, half of the games I listed above have human-only PCs.

That's my two coppers on the subject, anyway. Not sure if I'm articulating them clearly or not, though. :P

Im just disappointed it took the Mass Effect route or thats how I see it.

My first DAO toon was an elf, then i did the human origins.

I just wondering if they are planning on making it like ME with the coelseced ini thing therefore almost negating any community modding ability that would be the pits

I am also not nearly as excited about DA2 as i was the approach of DAO

Having 1 origin has been used in many rpgs, not just mass effect and some of them have been great rpgs, and in DA2 there will be more customisation options than in many of those others.

Yeah, morrigan's pretty much coming back for sure, but the big question is will it be with the warden. Given the witch hunt endings, its a feasible option but in the end it all is really up to bioware. I personally hope they do, I'd want to resolve the morrigan storyline with my warden, because he has a history with her. The witch hunt ending did provide some closure, but when they hint at morrigan returning I worry that the warden won't return with her and will just be written off and forgotten.

I think we'll briefly see the warden since we're using the old save file.

Er...has that already been discussed? D:

Is there any news on how long Dragon Age 2 will be? I've read some comments that it will be the same length as Mass Effect 2 (40-50 hours). I hope that's not true and it's more close to the original Dragon Age because I enjoyed all the 100 hours I put into the game.

Well, I'm pretty sure we've had confirmation that it will definitely be shorter than origins but since it really depends on the player (I personally got about 40-50 hours out of origins and that's with doing EVERY side quest) a specific time range isn't really set.

I'm just wondering what they'll do with the people who had their warden marry Alistair/Anora *cough* (me), because I'm pretty sure the Monarch of Ferelden will be making an appearance. I would at least like them to mention something about it if that is the case, otherwise I would be tremendously disappointed.

Well the warden if he/she marries Alistair or Anora is really just arm candy.  Sure they can help rule but we won't see them going to other countries on major diplomatic missions really in place of the actual monarch.

Well, I'm not saying we have to meet up and have a meaningful conversation with our warden over a cup of tea or anything, just that because we are importing saves I would like it to make some mention of where the warden ends up by the end of origins and not just overhearing a random "gossiper" say, "Blimey! did you hear?! One of the two grey wardens left in Ferelden defeated the blight before it even really began!"

Is there a quote from Bioware themselves? Not that I don't believe you, but it's nice to have confirmation from them. I read the first page of this thread and there's no news about the length of DA2. Still, I would be happy if DA2 campaign last around 50 hours. Tried of 6-8 hours campaign being the norm now for most games today.

If by "took the Mass Effect route" you mean, specifically, the dialogue wheel/voiced PC, I can understand the problem. Personally, I don't mind it; I enjoy both games with a voiced PC and those with a silent one. As long as the system works well enough within the game itself, I'm happy. It's the fact some people are complaining that they only get to play "one character" that confuses me. I understand limited options in character creation is a cause of frustration for some, but regardless of the character creation options, pretty much any game puts you in the role of a single person (or, sometimes, a specific group). DA:O was no different, except for the different prologues, and even with those, the player is still controling the part of the Warden, regardless of what the Warden is.

From what we've heard from the devs about DA2, you still get to shape Hawke's personality. The extent of that is up for debate, but the fact remains you're still making your own PC just like in DA:O; you just are set to one origin this time.

I got a question, we all know the infamous footage of the exaggerated combat where it played more like a hack and slash. Now Bioware said that wasn't the actual gameplay. But I wonder why they were demonstrating the exaggerated combat instead of actual combat? If this exaggerated combat is going to be minimal in the game, why show it at all instead of actual gameplay footage?

They did show the normal combat as well. However, someone decided to film only the exaggarated part. It was not in Bioware's plans for that footage to be released.

They were demonstrating both parts of gameplay, both exaggerated and actual gameplay. The footage didn't had time to show the rest with most likely they were caught out.

What? You mean people in the internet uploading things out of context to cause controversy? Well, I never!

I do have to wonder why they would include the exaggerated combat in the game at all. Is it just a big tease to do old CRPG players or to be more cynical, maybe Bioware were researching on which type of gameplay people prefer.

Because the narrator has a habit of being a lier and a scoundrel. He takes the story out of context during those parts while you really travel back in time an see what really happened

^What doorbell said. That, and it sounds like they're experimenting with a new narrative approach. Whether or not it'll work will remain to be seen, but Bioware feels it's worth the risk trying this new approach.

Didn't someone at bioware said that Hawke's mother is related to the human mage origins warden?

They share the same family name (Hawkes mother and the human mage origin).  I think that was touched on in the most recent podcast.
