I was wondering how is the combat going to be like in DA2.
Will I still get the tactical feel from the first game cause Ive been hearing that It will be removed.
Just got Ultimate Edition(360) and wanted to know should I preorder now or wait till Jan for more gameplay info.

Not 100% sure how combat will be.

What is said is that it is pretty much the same, but sped up and a camera change.

Preorder before Jan. 11th, take a risk on getting a game and be rewarded with some stuff that you may or may not care about. Don't preorder, don't take a risk, read reviews, and get the standard product.

Edit: You could wait until Jan. 9th and preorder and get the SE product. You could preorder now and cancel before it ships to not be charged if you don't want the product. Not harmed for preordering now, not harmed for preordering Jan. 9th or maybe 10th.

I don't know why they had to speed up combat. It already seemed to move at a normal, realistic pace in DA. Will archers now have to fire at light speed in order to get an arrow off?

They will probably be able to shoot arrows out faster than in Origins. Thank God for that, Leliana spacing out and taking longer to shoot an arrow ability than it takes my mage to cast some really heavy hitting spells was sad.

Move at normal, realistic pace? Ok, but the shuffling and "lining up" the sword swing was awkward, apparently that has been reduced and the character will attack when they reach the enemy, not wait until they reach the enemy and confirm that the enemy is there and after a second or two decide to swing the sword.

Have yet to see a decent video on combat in DA2, so I can't say I know how DA2 will be different, just what I have inferred while on these forums.

Bioware really needs to do class videos like they did with Mass Effect and get people who know how to play the game to show off the classes.

Most of the demo players that put videos up on Youtube have no idea what they were doing.

There is quite a lot of gameplay info out, actually.
Peter Thomas created a thread not so long ago, where he answered all kind of questions about the changes in gameplay.

Edit: This is the thread I mean:

I am hoping for a Qunari companion, but not a mage to be honest. I believe they said we will have 2 companions for each class, for the mages Bethany is one and  so it could be a mage I guess, but I don't like the idea of a mute character. I prefer a qunari 2H-warrior (just like Sten was), I don't know.. 2-handed seems to be most fitting for such a big person. ^^'

Maybe you have them on default behaviour if it's pausing like that. That's the only time i've seen a pause like that when i've played.

I got the impression that the Qunari society was based on a militar "goverment" with strickly warfare in mind.
Although the idea of having an qunari mage is cool, I highly doubt that will happen, males like to be "badasses", right in the front line ready to sweep off enemies, I can't imagine them waving spells in the back doors and actually develop the intellect for that, they are highly developed to withstand damage and dashout, not "do it at a distance". And females don't participate in war like males do, so unless there is a revolution in their society, I would move on from that thought.

The tall looking figure in the pic, resembles to a barbarian, not a mage, the helmet with the horns kinda gives it away. And since it looks a bit norse-ish, I would't be suprised if the "robe" is actually a long cloak, although the devs said there would't be any. Its an concept art, doesn't mean it will be real in all aspects, its just to give us an idea of greatness of the location.

Qunari do have mages. They imprison them in lock and chain because most Qunari believe them dangerous.
If a Qunari mage escaped from its handler then it will probably be more than willing to join Hawke's cause.

A barbarian is a bit of a long shot, don't you think? the figure size matches a Qunari but not a human.
Horns are evident on Qunari male heads. The horns grow in all different shapes and sizes.
Norse society is one of the inspirations for the Qunari, after all "Sten" is a norse name, funnily enough.

Concept art gives an idea of the atmosphere in the location and what might be found in this location.
Which in this piece of concept art include our certain band of fellows who we might just travel with.

To Jestina:

Why did Bioware speed up combat? Because this time the new DA game is being developed primarily for consoles. This time we are getting a hack 'n' slash game with some RPG elements and a streamlined, linear, ME2-like gameplay. It is because Bioware no longer make traditional RPG games. In fact, they make combat-oriented games with a "strong" story, a few insipid plot choices and corridor-confined environments. Why? Well, that's how these-days games are made. Shorter development cycles, easier bucks and less content. PC gaming has been "consolized" to a remarkable extent. It is sad to see how Bioware have been descending into today's industry mainstream production since EA took them over. Perhaps Witcher 2 will show our dear Bioware how an actual RPG should be done.

I thought this was a 'what we know' thread not a Dom Perignon thread.

According to my knowledge they are not speeding up the combat but making it more responsive. There's a difference. The high speed combat seen in some leaked gameplay videos is actually due to exaggerated story telling from Varric's part.

Will we have a chance to change the faces of both male and female Hawkes ?Or is it just going to be skin tones ?

Also I hope we can get a DLC that allows us to play as other races.

I thought exactly the same when I saw a new gameplay trailer - Seems alot more consolized. The Japanese games and aimations are popular at the moment and you can defiently see the influence. Hopefully not sounded like too much of a nerd, but the exagerated deaths and faster kills definetly seems more hack 'n slash. Big shame as I miss the classic Baldur's gate style RPG's! :crying: .

In BG enemies exploded into meaty chunks when you killed them with a critical hit. Funny how everyone seems to overlook this.

I'm guessing that might have something do to with graphics being better now than when BG was released? But you're right, there was a lot of exploding bodies in BG.

If you kill Flemeth in the original game and import her, will she look different? I'm meaning no resemblance from the original whatsoever. And if you let her go, will she at least look the same? because if she died then she needed to go for a new host based on the story and what Morrigan told us.

Kirkwall was once the center of slave trade in the Tevinter Imperium.

Kirkwall has one of the largest Mage circles in Eastern Thedas, larger
than the one in Ferelden. It is also "the center of Templar power in
Eastern Thedas," and is host to a Templar army. [David Gaider - 52:03]  09/15

This is part of a posting I made in another thread and might be relevant here:

I looked up Kirk in the dictionary (Oxford Concise OED), and assumed that Kirk Wall might be a place name, along the lines of Ox Ford and Red
Cliff:

Kirk (Scottish & Northern English)
1 a church
2 (the Kirk or the Kirk of Scotland) the Church of Scotland.

So is the name Kirkwall a coincidence or chosen for a connection to the templars and Chantry?

I concur!

BTW, is the rouge Isabella the same Isabella from Origins (the one who trains you in the brothel)?

Also, is the signature edition available for the 360?
