Everything is fine, but I worried about the new darkspawn skin... I think it looks terrible.
First post, so hello all from Plathet Thai!
I bought the DA:O Collectors Edition and it had a making of bonus disc.
In the disc, one of the main makers (forget name) said the great thing and intention when they made them about darkspawn was that they look human, and you'd be sitting there thinking it looks human, and you'd see the pain and twisted life they lead, relate to it somehow.
I think the new darkspawn skin might look odd at first, but it does look more relatable to human. It is more along the lines of their original intention, I think.
By improving darkspawn for the next gen game, I think you expect to see more horrid, fragmented, mutated. I'm glad they seem more human. I hope their personalities also display more human traits, also.
People are also complaining about the origins (or lack of, as the case may be), I'd like to add my piece -
I think the idea of DA:O was giving you an introduction unto the world you'll be playing several games in in the future. I think they wanted to show you what it's like to be a dwarf or elf, also, and the best way to do this is by being one. I think you'd have paid a lot less to dwarven or elven culture if you could not play as one, meaning you'd have learned less.
We already have the backgrounds of the world, now I think they want to go into more in depth stories. Not being able to chose your race is a sacrafice, but a necessary one if you want depth.
I also am very happy there's a voice for the main character - someone said it is not important, but I really felt like the conversations in DA:O were very one way (as in, I felt I wasn't even there).
In the end, DA:O was about discovering a world, DA2 is about telling a story. 2 different things, both very fun in RPG game. People should not be so worried about change.
