I feel like there should be way more companions then what there is, so far...I'm hoping that there will be more then the last game. I don't know, I'm just greedy that way...To me, I don't find many of the characters appealing yet. Is that weird?

In DA:O we had:
-Leliana
-Zevran
-Morrigan
-Wynne
-Oghren
-Sten
-Dog
-Alistair/Loghain (could only have one or the other)
-Shale (Day 1 DLC)

In DA2 we have:
-Aveline
-Varric
-Fenris
-Merril
-Isabela
-Unnamed male mage
-Bethany/Carver (can only have one or the other)
-Sebastian (Day 1 DLC)

Once we hear a confirmation about the male mage, we're only short by one character, which in DA:O was a dog.  So really, we're not in bad shape as far as companions go Posted Image

Edit: and now we have a dog we can summon in battle, and who will hang out in Hawke's house otherwise.

A very silly question, but english isn't  my main language, but on the bioware site it says you only get the mabari if it's "original purchsers"  - not sure what is ment by that, I get the pre-order but none of the sites i've been on offter the mabari or the others, but they do offter the shield and sword. I preordered the SE in nov, does that mean it comes with that one or? XD

Edit: nvm, I reread it and now it makes sences lol

I am expecting big things with this game. So for me, important is more companions, I don't know why, I just think it is...to me anyways. For me, to out do the last game or even come close to Origins they have to do bigger things everywhere, not just in the game play and graphics, so I am hoping the story will be uber cool and that there would be more ppl to follow me around. If I'm that important, I should have that many more followers....

I also preordered, so I hope that means I get that stuff about the black market thing as well, I ordered my game last month.

I love your post - thank you.  Was just wondering, did I not read that Sebastian Vael was only a companion throughout "most" of the game.....indicating not for the entirety?Posted Image

I don't know, but I don't recall reading that. If you come across it again, let me know, but technically all companions are only with you for "most" of the game, aside from perhaps Bethany/Carver. No one else is a companion before you meet them. :P

Right, I guess I took it to mean that he may leave at some point, perhaps after you help him (purely speculation on my part) I will let you know once I find where I read that.

Wait so with -Bethany/Carver we can only have one of them join you on quest or what?

Will you get to choose?

It's based on class. Mages get Carver; rogues and warriors get Bethany.

There is a dev post about this somewhere, although I don't recall which thread it is in.

Like I said, you'll get Bethany if you play a rogue.  So, no need to be worriedPosted Image

Oh good....

At first i thought it was rouge/ warrior who got another warrior.

It makes sense if your mage you dont need another mage you need melee user and if your warrior you need mage not aother warrior.

If you think about it bethany/carver are not in the picture in the book Varric holds so that means we could get another non-human character as a companion

I could care less about new graphics, to be honest. I am quite content with the DA:O Graphics. Sure they could be better... but i didn't buy DA:O for its Graphics. I bought it for its story. And i rather see them investing time and money in a good and solid story which is capturing than i want them to improve the graphics every new game.

As far as i am concerned they could keep the DA:O Graphic and Gameplay and just focus on another story as long as DA:O...

I just hope we don't get another Awakenings, which just felt rushed, unfinished and kind of sloppy.

Just like Movies... good SFX don't sell movies to me... good Story does. I want to be captured by the story and carried along and not checking my watch in between pointless explosions and CGI Graphics which look as real as possible to see if the movie is finally over and i can leave. A good Story can be enhanced by good SFX, though.

But i rather watch old movies with a good story and SFX of the last century as to watch another "Skyline" type of movie with pointless CGI and SFX with characters as captive as the livefeed of a slug attempting a 10 miles marathon.

How exactly are they supposed to use that time and money on the story though? They hired a new writer; otherwise it's the same team that made the story from DAO which we all know and love. More money isn't going to make the writers come up with different/better ideas.

The graphics guys need something to do also. Why not have the graphics guys work on improving the graphics and the writers work on the story? They don't have to choose one or the other; they are two separate groups of people.

Thank you SirOccam for continuing to update this thread. It takes a lot of dedication to come here often and gather all the information from the past posts. :)

Does anyone know if we will find out who the LIs are before release or is that usually top secret?

Little piece of info about Hawke customisation I don't think has been mentioned yet.

Michael Hamilton wrote...

Default Hawke's hair and beard
styles are not available for character customization.  The default
appearances were not really intended for piecemeal use in the character
editor (ie: the precise nose and eye and mouth shapes are not available
either), it is as was mentioned, a custom modelled head all baked
together.  This gave the character artists a lot more direct control
over how Hawke looked without being restricted to the headmorph system
for our title character's appearance.

Now for the good
news: There are 32 hairstyles for female hawke (including the bald
option), 36 for male hawke (the same number of unique models, but there
are a couple more variations of peach fuzz texturing including male
pattern baldness which makes no sense to have for females) and 17
beards.

There are no -exact- matches to the default Hawke's hair,
however, there are quite a few very similar styles. There is also one
similar beard model (though it is a bit longer than the custom one).
You can make a very similar looking character to the custom Hawke model,
but it is not exact.  It would be close enough that you can roleplay
age (assuming a character's exact hairstyle and beard length changes a
little over the years).  This is really one of those things you'll have
to see and judge for yourselves because it is a little subjective.

There
is a huge range of possibility, there are millions of face variations
possible in character generation.  If you were to see every combination
of hairstyle alone there are 3,311,685 combinations of possible features
for the male.  Hope you're looking forward to it!

So many hair styles :wub::wub::wub:

Edit: And this too :P

Michael Hamilton wrote...

22 different eye colours, and
yes there are several shoulder length hairstyles for men who like to
whip their hair back and forth.

Edit: AND ANOTHER!! About naming your Hawke no less :D

Michael Hamilton wrote...

The character limit for the
first name is 12 due to localization of different languages and making
sure the maximum length name correctly fits in every place where it is
used in every language. I'd love to make it even longer, but we cannot
do it safely (things might overlap).  By default you cannot include
spaces, but maybe you can with alt character codes.

So in reading the updates for today, we cannot speak with companions at all on missions (like in mass effect) and we can only talk with them at there home base when they iniate the conversation (via a note in our journal - unlike mass effect 2 wherer we could talk with them anytime)...so essentially the companion conversation is actually less than in mass effect 2?

WHAT! Thats insane! Why can't we just talk to them instead of them having to come to us?

It's a way to prevent what a lot of people did in Origins -> talk to everyone at camp till all dialogue options are gone.
They don't want that in DA2, because it makes no sense to interrrogate people like that.

I believe that during quests there are sometimes moments that some of the companions will make a comment and that Hawke can talk with them about it, but I'm not completely sure about that.

It always bugged me how I could do that (speeding relationships up), so I'm actually happy about this change.

Non Humans over Humans is always a good thing.
