So in reading the updates for today, we cannot speak with companions at all on missions (like in mass effect) and we can only talk with them at there home base when they iniate the conversation (via a note in our journal - unlike mass effect 2 wherer we could talk with them anytime)...so essentially the companion conversation is actually less than in mass effect 2?

WHAT! Thats insane! Why can't we just talk to them instead of them having to come to us?

It's a way to prevent what a lot of people did in Origins -> talk to everyone at camp till all dialogue options are gone.
They don't want that in DA2, because it makes no sense to interrrogate people like that.

I believe that during quests there are sometimes moments that some of the companions will make a comment and that Hawke can talk with them about it, but I'm not completely sure about that.

It always bugged me how I could do that (speeding relationships up), so I'm actually happy about this change.

except now you cannot actually even initiate the relationship as I understand it...you have to wait until they send you a journal message saying they like you I guess...at least while in mass effect 2 you did not tlak with squad members on missions (which I understand) when you were on the normandy you could talk with them anytime and it did not speed up hte romances at alll...now we cannot EVER initiate dialogue with anyone without a journal entry first...that means we cna never proactively talk with someone

I'm curious how The Black Emporium works if you have default Hawks face. I've read in a couple places that you can't tweak the defaults hair or anything, but at the same time the Black Emporium is suppose to have a Mirror of Transformation that allows you to customise your hair, eyes, and tattoos... anyone know anything about that?

Also, I wonder if there will be any sort of preorder bonus, since you could preordered for the Signature Edition that already has a load of content included.

(p.s. Super excited about the Mabari summon) Posted Image

I'm guessing the Mirror of Transformation will pretty much let you re-access the character customization screen. So you'll be able to either pick the default Hawke, or make new custom one. I think it's as easy and simple as that. It's a great feature though, one I'm really looking forward to using if I get tired of the face I pick from the start.

I agree, the feature does sound exciting and on several occasions in DA:O i would create my character only to start playing and realize that my guy's proportions were slightly off. Although i can't say i won't be slightly disappointed that i won't be able to change default Hawk's beard or give him tattoos... but i digress

If you have him as a character I suppose we will be able to.
I do hope they'll implement a system similar til the one from Origins where any character can be our avatar :P

I posted some info about customising your Hawke on the previous page, but I think it was ignored. :(

It had things in it like 36 hairstyles for m!Hawke, 32 for f!Hawke. Long hair do's for guys, lots of beards and 22 eye colours.

As for not being able to otherwise edit the default appearance, it not because we're being mean-spirited or because we don't want to provide the option. It's a pre-rendered face that wasn't made with the regular character creator... and thus the only possibility with it is use/not-use. That's not to say that it couldn't be somehow modded-- that might be possible, but I have no idea how that would work.

So basically, no.

Yes, I know you can't make him look exactly like that. I'm just asking whether the beard and hair are available for custom Hawke so I can at least get close to it

I think I was accused of posting a political sounding answer earlier, let me be precise here. ;)

Default Hawke's hair and beard styles are not available for character customization.  The default appearances were not really intended for piecemeal use in the character editor (ie: the precise nose and eye and mouth shapes are not available either), it is as was mentioned, a custom modelled head all baked together.  This gave the character artists a lot more direct control over how Hawke looked without being restricted to the headmorph system for our title character's appearance.

Now for the good news: There are 32 hairstyles for female hawke (including the bald option), 36 for male hawke (the same number of unique models, but there are a couple more variations of peach fuzz texturing including male pattern baldness which makes no sense to have for females) and 17 beards.

There are no -exact- matches to the default Hawke's hair, however, there are quite a few very similar styles. There is also one similar beard model (though it is a bit longer than the custom one).  You can make a very similar looking character to the custom Hawke model, but it is not exact.  It would be close enough that you can roleplay age (assuming a character's exact hairstyle and beard length changes a little over the years).  This is really one of those things you'll have to see and judge for yourselves because it is a little subjective.

There is a huge range of possibility, there are millions of face variations possible in character generation.  If you were to see every combination of hairstyle alone there are 3,311,685 combinations of possible features for the male.  Hope you're looking forward to it!

I don't ignore. I am wont, however, to miss things with great frequency indeed.

I'll put it on the to-add list. (I don't add everything as soon as I hear it because 1) Dude, that's like...a lot of work, and 2) it would defeat the purpose of color-coding the new information. Everyone would have a day or two to see what was new and then they'd miss it.)

No offense but I think I'm going to wait for a source link (or for it to be corroborated by an English source). Those foreign (to me) magazines don't exactly have a stellar track record for accuracy so far (presumably due to mistranslation between the authors and the BW staff, from the person posting it, or somewhere in between).

I wouldn't be surprised if Merrill was a blood mage. Wasn't it explained somewhere that Dalish elves don't look at blood magic the same way religious humans do?

I figured they have a fear of blood magic, as it was blood magic that destroyed Arlathan thousands of years ago, or whenever it was.

I'm sure some Dalish don't mind it. But I'm sure they are just as careful and cautious with it as humans are.

You're probably right. The only Dalish blood mage we've encountered is Zathrian anyway, and I don't think anyone knew what he was until the end. Hinting that they probably wouldn't have approved.
