sorry to disapoint...Bioware has already confirmed the sibling thing. If you make a warrior or rogue then Carver dies, if you make a mage Bethany dies. It's an unchangeing fact set in stone.

Got a link by chance?

I totally believe it, but I can't add it if I don't also include a link.

Ah, but they just say you "get" Carver if you're a mage and Bethany if you're a warrior or rogue. They don't say what happens to the one you don't "get."

Like I said I totally believe they die. After seeing Carver die in the PAX demo I don't see them doing anything beyond putting Bethany in his place for those who play mages. But I got called out (and rightfully so) for putting the death of the other sibling in the list. They haven't (to my knowledge) actually explicitly said that there is no way to prevent the death of the other sibling. Theoretically, they could make a way to save them but not have them join you, without contradicting what they said there.

This whole thing has really been bothering me ever since they announced it, especially when they said that Hawke's family is extremely important to the plot of DAII.  Why actually kill off a sibling if that's the case?  Furthermore, it seems like a waste of time and money to have to completely voice two different characters for the entire game when one of them supposedly dies.  I'm having trouble believing it, even though it has apparently been confirmed as such.  I suppose the dead sibling could still have an impact later on in the game in some way...  I guess we'll have to wait and see.  Quite frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if they do both survive and this was all just a trick.  The devs are sneaky like that. Image IPB

It's not a waste because they are both fully realized companions. They are simply class restricted.

I didn't mean to sound negative about it, I only meant that it seems like a lot of work to put forth for a character only to have them possibly die.  It adds to the replayability, though.  My fav classes are rogue and mage, so looks like I'll get to take advantage of it, but there may be some players who play strictly one class, or may only play the game one time.  Just my thoughts.

Actually it hasn't been confirmed. It seems extremely likely, but they haven't come out and said it (as far as I know).

As for why they'd kill off a sibling...well they didn't have to. They could have had only one sibling who survives no matter what. I recall a thread in which Gaider when into some depth on the topic. I wonder if that might actually contain a quote that can be cited as proof. Hmm. *goes off to search for it*

Because Awakening came with a little card in the case that had the blood dragon and the date 2/1/2011 and nothing else.

That was one of the theories. Some people thought it might also be something to do with the anime. Now it's looking more like Legends, but who knows.

Seeing as Feb. 1 is a Tuesday, I'd bet it was the original release date of DA2.

Its just like in ME. You can either make a Hawke with the custome face or create a new face, but you can't change the custome face.

Ok, let me ask you this. Why waste time and money creating 6 different fully-voiced origins in DA:O?

The answer i was looking for is actually replayability, but i agree more or less..

I was trying to respond to Evewyn's complain regarding the fact that  you can only  either Bethany or Carver not both as a companion based on your class.

Instead of looking it as ;Bioware has stripped you of one possible companion. Think of it as a way to make your playthrough either as a mage or non mage non-identical to each other.

This is also part of my issue with the sibling being dependant upon the class you choose...as that means for me...that 2 outa of every 3 playthroughs Bethany will be in my party as opposed to Carver...though that's not a problem with me as she is whom I would want with me anyway from a visually appealing standpoint(as a man, I say this)...

I suppose thats true. But then again the party is more balanced this way.
Im guessing from a storytelling PoV if your character is a non mage you will act the protective older brother/sister towards Bethany protecting her from templar scrutiny.
While if you re a Mage Carver would be the subservant little brother but has a slight "you brought this upon us by being a mage" mentality going on.

I was going to post something on topic, until someone asked about the dialogue wheel. That is the single BIGGEST detriment to re-playability, having to sift through every un-readable, fully-voiced line of VO in the friggin game.

If there is a toolset, and there is a way to modify dialogue to play out differently, I will be there, developing that mod, the 1ST day I get the game.

If I have to start the entire game over to see a different companion -like, at all-, then I'd definitely want to speed through allot stuff the second time around.

This combination of SLOW + Replay-Focus does not sit well with me.

On the subject about Flemeth, I think maybe something to do about Morrigan's 'sisters' might be related to the topic. Maybe Flemeth took over one of their bodies, or something along those lines. I don't think the story about the sisters would have been put in there if it wasn't important.
