Can you imagine if Baldurs Gate just took you through a different characters eyes in Throne of Bhaal? It would be absolutely retarded. It's Halo 3 without Chief, Gears of War without Marcus. I'm not saying that going through another character in a different land is bad, but make it an expansion. So what's the point of Dragon Age Origins?

Se the problem with that statement would be this: Those games you mentiond? Yea see they have a story centered on one person. Said story is told across multiple games. Said story really wasn't finished in a single game. DA:O? Well that story was basically summed up. I mean what do you do after saving the world? Not much I would think. That combined with the fact that the Devs have stated, many times, that the story of Dragon Age is not the story of one person, but rather the story of THEDAS. Hence whay would they stick with one person's story when that story has already been summed up for the most part.

Which reverts back to my previous question. Why have group members you hardly get to know? Or completely cut out romance since it is completely void at this point.

Horrendous analogy that makes no sense.

Those games revolve around a single character for the whole series.

The Dragon Age series does not revolve around the Warden. It revolves around the LAND.

How is it void?

Party members become friends. Some of those become romantic partners for the main character, and it enriches the experience.

You're going through the story of someone in Thedas. There would be no need for party members and lovers to be removed because there's nothing that states those MUST carry over to other games in the series.

Yeah. Dragon Age is about the period of time which is known on Thedas as the "Dragon Age." Go figure. Another interesting point:  Dragon Age: Origins had origin stories. Dragon Age 2 does not. Funny how the name alone can tell you very quickly what's in the game. It's like they thought out the title or something. If it was only ever going to be about the Warden, I think they would have called it something else. Given this trend, probably something to do with Grey Wardens.

Another fanboi to the rescue it seems. You'll obviously buy whatever bioware puts out blindly. Why the hell would a game revolve around land, who gives a flying crap?

Your reading comprehension fails you, I think.  When someone uses the word land in such a way, they mean the people and civilizations on it.  If someone were to make a game literally about land, I think I would be one of a very few people interested.

How is that lame, or even an excuse?  It's the title of the game.  I think perhaps I've been trolled.  I shall cease feeding now.

Way to have a mature counterpoint. Assuming does your argument no favor.

As to why it would revolve around the land, its because it works. People DO care.

Ever heard of a Song of Ice and Fire? All about the land, and it was highly successful.

No, not lame. Just a reason you're unwilling to accept.

taking the warden out is like taking the master chief out of halo,  and putting a new guy named bob and just going forward, oh but its about the area they all live in and not a certain guy, but Bioware just said that Hawke is to be the legend of this game, I hate them for this, all they did was bend us over the bench and have thier way with us.

Oh man, he compared having different main character/s of a sequel to anal rape. God I love these boards.

classy, no?

Anyway, don't know if this has already been posted, but:

"Hawke is a human, and he starts in Lothering as it is being destroyed -- an event that occurred offscreen in Origins."

From the Game Informer article.

Okay, signals are no longer mixed. You're clearly against having multiple protagonists. In that case, I have to ask again, was it upsetting for you that the books were not from the point of view of your Warden? They still added to the story of Thedas, though, right? Now think about why you're assuming that can't be the case in DA2.

It is, at least the first post is. The rest is speculation galore, but that's fine. I'm trying my hardest to keep the first post to 100% verifiable fact, and I'd welcome suggestions if anyone sees something they don't agree is factual enough.

Some people don't even consider the books canon, believe it or not.

Yes, but I meant that that states pretty unequivocally that the player starts in Lothering. I've seen some disagreement over when the ten-year span actually begins, and I think this might apply. The article states that the destruction was offscreen for Origins, meaning that it is onscreen for DA2. Maybe it shouldn't be included in the list, but it seems unlikely that Lothering would just be a cutscene.

Thank you for your thank you. :)

Well, just cause it was off screen in Origins doesn't mean its on screen in DA2.

But I think I want it to be on screen.

See guys, it IS inspired from the DnD franchise... Proof? They want the setting to be important.. and I heard that they are going to make DnD like board games too...

So the fanboy aka angelgaidin is right!

I definitely do, too.

Elsewhere the article says (when detailing the start of the demo they played) that one character is telling what happened for Hawke at Lothering, and that the scene then shifts to Hawke's perspective. So it seems pretty clear that we get Hawke in Lothering at some point during the game.

I for one like all the new ideas. People discredit it for its I guess "fableness" but DA2 will have something fable didn't. Excellent dialogue, awesome characters and a much better setting. (so better writers then)

As for voice acting... Yes.
