I think Gaider said they're not using the exact system as in Awakening, but the way he phrased it makes me think it will be similar. Personally I'm hoping that means it will be something of a hybrid of the Origins and Awakening systems, which seems to be what most people (including myself) are asking for.RPGmom28 wrote...
I really don't care either way about a voiced character. It was fine without in DA:O, and I think it works in Mass Effect and have no problems with it. My only worry at this point is the Awakening convo system, which I didn't like at all and is the reason I don't replay it. Finding objects to get your party members to speak up didn't work for me. Maybe I'm a little sentimental, but I love to hear Wynne chattering away to me in her comforting voice, teasing Alistair, or listening to Leliana's tales. I do have a certain measure of trust in the developer that has put out so many good games and will probably buy DA2.

Yes, but I meant that that states pretty unequivocally that the player starts in Lothering. I've seen some disagreement over when the ten-year span actually begins, and I think this might apply. The article states that the destruction was offscreen for Origins, meaning that it is onscreen for DA2. Maybe it shouldn't be included in the list, but it seems unlikely that Lothering would just be a cutscene.
Thank you for your thank you.
Well, just cause it was off screen in Origins doesn't mean its on screen in DA2.
But I think I want it to be on screen.
I definitely do, too.
Elsewhere the article says (when detailing the start of the demo they played) that one character is telling what happened for Hawke at Lothering, and that the scene then shifts to Hawke's perspective. So it seems pretty clear that we get Hawke in Lothering at some point during the game.

I think that Lothering might be the tutorial part. Do a few quests around town (learn the basics) before the horde shows up and then flee for your life (learn the combat basics)... on to chapter 1

Wait.
It just hit me.
DA:O imports.
Awakenings had some really huge choices in it as well.
I hope we can import DA:A.

Hopefully they'll do something to clear up the Lothering thing, because it doesn't make much sense unless Hawke starts cowardly and then turns into super warrior. If I were such a great fighter in that situation, i'd just go up to Denerim or seek out the party of Wardens.
I doubt this will happen, simply because there was no way to save the game post-epilogue, so even the latest possible save is going to be missing stuff.Bryy_Miller wrote...

As for it being an optional expansion, well that's not such a big deal. If they need to reference what happened with the Architect, they can just default to a particular canon choice, just like they do if you don't import your DAO character into Awakening.

But most of Lothering was evcuating anyway, The Templars were evacuating so I don't really see him as a coward, just someone who had the brains to live another day when it was obivous that Lothering was going to crash and burn. I wouldn't stay in a house that is burning down around me. Also everyone had the chance to flee there too.
But once again that's just my thoughts on the character

Or they can always sneak it in like Kotor 2.
"Hey Hawke did you hear about that freaky Architect creature?"
"You mean one the Wardens let get away?"
or
"Glad the Wardens put that thing down."

You're not going to tuck your tail between your legs and flee a few hundred miles away either, unless you are some kind of coward or someone who can't fight. You'd seek to join up with the army which would be in Denerim or the forces that the Wardens are gathering.
Why? Just to clarify, my second paragraph was referring to the objections that some people may not have played Awakening. If that's the case, then why should they care which canon choices are made for them?Bryy_Miller wrote...

See, THAT would make me upset in a way that comes eerily close to the kinds of people I make fun of on these boards.
