Dragon Age was not, and was never meant to be, a trilogy, but rather a franchise with many games based in the world.



That REALLY needs to be stickied. By a dev. Because a lot of people just don't get it.

That would be awesome

But how can he be known as a champion of anything if he's an apostate. To earn such a title I'd assume you would have to be in the public eye quite often, which wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. It'll be interesting to see how it's handled if he's a mage.

Hawke is human only. You can choose your class, though.

This is true, but it doesn't mean that all our decisions made in previous games should have gone to the trash can. DA2 definitly should be able to import at least some "key choices" from previous games, but that means A LOT of extra work for the team. I downloaded a .tlk editor to translate DA:O to my native language and the amount of dialogues ingame is insane.

An example of "key choice" is the quest on "The Landsmeet". Here are 6 different outcomes for Alistair (taken from dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/The_Landsmeet)
- Rule on his own
- Rule jointly with Anora
- Rule jointly with a female
Human Noble Warden as his queen-consort
- Remain as a Grey Warden
and let Anora rule
- Be executed by Anora
- Leave the party and become
a wandering drunk

I think it may be voice acted....having only one race would be easier for voice acting and DA2 is supposed to be a " highly new cinematic experience" which could mean voice acting. I'm okay with the Warden's story ending (people that made the US would probably be upset to have the Warden's story continued) although I wouldn't mind another DLC for my Warden. I am a little sad that I can't pick my race, but I think that it was done because they are probably going to use voice acting. I like not having voice acting so I can imagine how my PC says things, but I think VA going to be a standard for games to come. I just hope that if there is VA whatever we say will be what Hawke says word for word...not like Leliana's Song where they say something different. However, who knows we may be pleasantly surprised when we get more information. Perhaps, while we won't have choices on the origin or race we will have more choice in game and more depth in how the choices affect our PC and companions.....I am curious to hear how the dialogue system will work. Perhaps this game will be more indepth in the story as well? The 10 year time frame could have a pick impact on your relationships with companions....ones you pick in the beginning could be very loyal or imagine a blow it would be if they betray you at the end. I wouldn't worry too much about the marketing of DA2 on the website. When I first saw the commercials for DAO on the tv, I didn't want to buy it. I thought it looked like a hack and slash where you had to play as some tough guy. I thought it looked really stupid. Then I heard about what an awesome rpg it was and bought and fell in love with it. It's now one of my most favorite games of all time. Also maybe in the future they will make another game after DA2 where you can pick your race again? (hopeful thinking)

Yeah, it came off sounding a little strangely worded. I was trying to stick to the pure fact, without any assumption/speculation whatsoever, but the fact that they posted at all about how much time was left in the Age indicated to me that it would take place within the Dragon Age, or in other words, closely after DA:O and its expansions/DLC. As confident as I am, though, it's still speculation.

Kirkwall is part of the Free Marches apparently, according to this map (Right below the 2 m's in "Vimmark Mountains"). I'm not sure what conclusions we can draw from this, though. Is he necessarily from there? Your guess is as good as mine.
They also said he was a "refugee," and the fact that he "survived the Blight" seems to indicate that he spent at least some time in Ferelden. It could be that he's FROM Ferelden, fled the Blight, ended up in Kirkwall, and did something amazing there that earned him that title. I'm not sure how that fits in with the "rags-to-riches" storyline we're supposed to have though. I wouldn't have expected a "penniless refugee" to have a title like that. It could be that earning this title is part of the game. Anyway, this is all guesswork, which is why none of it is in the list. (Well, I suppose I could add the map.)

Edit: added the map, but it doesn't show national borders, so even though it looks pretty clearly to be a part of The Free Marches, I don't know how far east Nevarra goes.

Kirkwall is in the Free  Marches and while we don't know if this is where hawke hails from, if he is not Ferelden or Orlesian he may not be bound ot the same rules as a mage. There is no Circle of Magi in Tevinter and if I recall, the other nations have them but don't restrict mages in the same was as Fereldans or Orlesians do (Circles are mostly used to gather mages together to share information, not to lock them up from the rest of society). It's quite possible that in the Free Marches where there really is not identifiable national government (remember, it's a bunch of small city-states) that mages are able to roam freely. Just an idea though, don't take my word on it. Though the idea of playing an apostate would appeal to many as well

I agree, but a lot of people still don't seem to get that DA1 and ME2 are out.

Judging by the map, and if the game does indeed take place in the Marches, we could possibly expect to see:

* Ostwick
* The Vimmark Mtns.
* Wildervale
* Starkhaven (sounds like the prerequisite Nasty Town)
* Markham
* The Minanter River
* Green Dales

That would seem to cover an area as big as the first game.

Yup. Awakaing took place one year after Origins. Gaider has said That in DA2, there is still alove of the age left, DA2 takes place in ten years.
