Does anyone know if the Tactics system is returning for DA2? I mean that was huge from a tactical standpoint. You can customize your AI routines so that each party member reacts to given situations just as you want them to.. without having to switch over to them and control them directly. And you can change up different sets of routines to fit any given situation. I LOVED the system and really hope they dont ditch it so that players arent spending so much time in the menu.

I forget who, but one of the Bioware people said that the Tactics system was on the development teams' favorite aspects and that they would be working to do it justice in DA2.

I wonder if or who they will get as far as famous voice actors go. I know DAO had some big names as did ME 2, hopefully Bioware can wrangle some very talented vo names for DA 2.
If they're going to take the time and effort to voice the main character, they may as well do it right.
been said in another thread that they have the people to do the voices for male and female hawke

Im surprised you even play RPG's.. Sounds like they arent even your thing. I mean, if you dont even bother to customize your squads behaviors... why not just play a shooter?

This is AWESOME news thanks. Hopefully the same level of customizability. I mean, you could literaly customize your guys to be able to tackle almost any situation. Really great system.

The tactics system, as presented in DA:O is a very recent development. Older RPGs tended to have either lousy AI, or you micro-managed your party. Usually the latter.
I personally hope they give us more tactic slots earlier. I usually commanded specfic actions from the party memebers, rather than automate them, but I didn't have any problem automatic things like spell combos (if X enemy is suffering Y status, cast Z spell) or drinking potions/using poltices.
Also, topic is sticky again. Win!

True, it wasnt super useful until you had a bunch of slots later in the game. But at the least you can setup so they use healing potions and mana/stamina potions at the right times. And also setup like one or two of their most used moves as automated. It wasnt until later in the game when you could pretty much setup an AI Routine and let them have almost complete free reign.

I mean, I see the point of making Hawke one standard character--and unlike Shepard, at least s/he'll have a backstory on which to go on. I'm excited to see Hawke has a sister! So long as we get Jennifer Hale-quality VA, I'm pleased s/he'll have voice. I mean, I'm not so pleased that the number of options Hawke will have in dialogue is going to be reduced greatly, but without a morality meter, perhaps they'll run less like Shepard's "Nice, neutral, d***", and more in a way that makes me okay with picking that bottom-right option.
Also hoping that along with importing saves, the Warden's gender and romance option (assuming we see god-baby I definitely want to see a Morrigan romance continued--as well as the effects of a King/Queen Warden) will be carried through. Here's also hoping we see more character development and friendship with non-romancable party members (I'm looking at you, Wynne).
Well, I don't want to simmer over a game that BioWare isn't going to change because I'm complaining. I'd rather go with it and enjoy it when it comes out.

I also rarely cracked open the tactics menu (except occasionally to disable one or two of the really power-hungry sustained abilities from being used by default). It just wasn't necessary (or interesting, in my opinion). Then again, I rarely put the difficulty above Easy or Casual, because the difficulty of the combat was pretty much irrelevant to me. If I wanted that, THEN I would put in a shooter. I'm in it for the storyline, the choices, the RP.
I don't give a toss for maximizing dps or comparing weapon ratios or customizing tactics or anything like that. For the most part, it made such a small difference in the combat that I found it very difficult to care.
When I hear about people soloing on Nightmare, I'm like...that's nice. But that sort of thing doesn't have any interest for me. I don't think NOT caring about it is any less valid a reason for playing RPGs, though. There is much more to them than min/maxing and numbers and stats.

The wheel can handle 6 choices, and we never got more than 6 choices in DA:O, if I remember correctly.Saibh wrote...

Well said. I'm exactly the same. But I'm sure you realise we're not the majority - plenty of people love to min/max, even some folks who'd call themselves "hardcore" RPGers.

Well I wouldn't assume they're the majority either. Both camps are large, no doubt, and that's exactly what I'm saying. They are both perfectly valid reasons to enjoy RPGs. What I was taking issue with was TheSeeker expressing such shock at the concept of not caring so much about messing around with tactics. As though anyone who didn't enjoy that should have no other reason for playing RPGs.saruman85 wrote...

In my opinion, RPGs were never about the rules and the dice-rolling. Those were necessary in order to support the true spirit of RPGs, which was freedom and choice and imagination. Without them it's just a bunch of people sitting around daydreaming together. But without the freedom and choice and imagination...it's just what? A bunch of people sitting around doing math together?

I just want to pipe up and say I agree with you.
I'm so glad Flemeth is back and apparently will have a major role in this game. She was one of my favorite characters in the first game, and I felt like she didn't get enough screen time there (to my tastes, anyway). I honestly had mixed feelings about killing her, as a player.

Does the Seeker really appear all that sexy to people? Nothing about her seems inviting, at least not in the concept art. She is completely armored from the neck down and the look on her face is all business (and perhaps a bit cold).
