Added the first link...still trying to figure out how to word something from the second, though. Maybe "Hawke may speak without prompting, but rarely and only under specific circumstances?"Saibh wrote...
Also:
"We put up to 5 choice options and 5 investigate options per dialog node. There is also a difference between choices (where you are actually deciding something) and giving you the opportunity to express yourself in different ways (which I think is quite cool, but not something I believe we have released any details on yet)."

"1) If the line is completely neutral in its tone-- the equivalent of what someone pointed out above, when in DAO you'd have one response option and it was simply designed to drive the conversation forward. Things that anyone could be expected to say in that situation.
2) If you've already selected a tone, on occasion we will initiate an exchange that carries on that tone (generally not more than one extra line). This helps on those occasions where it would be awkward to fit everything the player has to say onto one line.
3) The most common use is when initiating conversation with someone whom you already know, or we know why you're returning there (such as to finish a quest). This one I quite like as it prevents the need to have the NPC start the conversation in all cases and thus skips the beginning rigamarole when it's unnecessary."

Er, right, that's why I said, "NOT to disregard your point." Because I felt what you said was somewhat valid. However I still ultimately think the odds will justify the means.

I do not know how having us play as only one race would appeal to a
wider audience. It seems to narrow things down and some folks prefer to
play as elves or dwarves.
Having a clear, concise start point in a story should prove to be more attractive to those unfamiliar with the Dragon Age series. Ever read a vague introduction to a novel..?
And I partially agree with you on this. Some do like to play as elves and dwarves.
But previous polls highlight that the majority usually choose to play as the human noble anyway. And I would presume that the majority would also give up the different races if it meant more time, effort and detail was put towards an improved interactive storyline. A story that would entail more detailed decisions and plot twists - as opposed to moderate effort spread across the six different origins'...

Will DA2 continue this, or is Hawke somehow special in a way of the writers' design, thus making him the proverbial "Chosen One"?
Unless you wish to extend the definition of a "Chosen One" to someone who has a destiny (you do know right from the beginning of the game, after all, that your character is destined to become someone significant), then no... there is no "Chosen One" scenario here.

Yeah, I'm really sure that's why they're making this big overhaul and all. I'm sure the devs at BioWare realize how unpleasable we are--and certainly not everyone would have preferred a voice over. Some did, some don't. I doubt we had much to do with that decision.

Mmm...true enough, but go back a few pages, and there's plenty of discussion going on, and I have yet to see a moderator step in and tell us to get back on track.

Besides that, March 2011 sounds like a horrible short development time for a big rpg to me, kinda expecting an Awakening-like mess.
Oh well, sad...but saves me money.
Edit: link is a mess...yes it´s the IGN one.

And more simplifying. Sounds more and more like an action based "rpg" to me. Not something i´m interested in.

That article doesn't seem to lead anywhere, and I imagine it's just about the same as the IGN one? In any case, developers have already cleared that up, as noted above--we have up to five dialogue options and five investigate options (presumably the sixth is taken up by the "investigate" and "return" button). And to be absolutely fair, in any given DAO dialogue, one or two of those are "investigation" type questions.
EDIT: Ah, do you mean here?: http://www.games-new...nks/?id=1097419
In which case, yeah, it's just rehashing what IGN said, and IGN got it wrong.

Also IGN is referring to the comic book style character graphics of the demo.
The character models have a subtle comic book look to them, which we liked.
I'd take that with a pince of salt as well and by no means as an indicataion
/ confirmation on what the final product will look like. They simply didn't
mention they've played a pre-beta demo...
