I'm more disappointed that it sounds like a completely streamlined cash in, minus lots of the customization one would expect from a Bioware title. I guess those like Maria who begged for more "personable" characters are getting their wish at the large cost of distinct player characters and actual *gasp* role playing.

They rushed Awakening, full of bugs, my guess is we're going to see the same thing with a sequel that aparently has very little to do with the original core game. Can't say I'm all that suprised either.

Are we just that spoilt for choice after DA:O?  Or is this a case of rose-colored nostalgia glasses?  DA2 does not have any more or less customization than Jade Empire, KOTOR, KOTOR2, or Mass Effect.  The ONLY bit of extra customization that the Baldur's Gate series or NWN had was race, and that didn't even factor into the story one little bit.  If anything, DA:O was the exception among BioWare games--and even WRPGs in general--for origin customization rather than the rule.

Except for the fact that you can import your choices. You're in a thread about what we know, you may want to read it.

And if there fact that you can import is NOT on in the OP, I'd be surprised.

There is one reason why I am slightlly disappointed in the New game as it is currentlly described.

In DA:O I played a character that was a representation of me, doing what I wanted, acting as I wanted with no idea what the final impact of my actions were going to be. It had my name, my look, my character.

In short, I'm a selfish narcissistic person who wants to play as Himself in a game. Thus I have loved DA:O , Morrowind, ME, etc.

I do not like the fact I am going to be stuck playing as some dude, who while I know I get to control his actions, I can not change how he looks, or (from what I have gathered you start off in the future and play his past) have the ending a surprise.

Personally I don't give a crap about how 'streamlined' or 'well executed' the storyline is. I just want it to be MY storyline. As long as it makes a modicum of sense, and includes my decisions, and isn't something way whacked out.

Not this Hawk dudes story. (yeah yeah, I hear a "But you play as a shephard in ME" I know, but I get to choose sex/age/appearance/race/first name in ME. ME1 was better then ME2 personally)

I heard you get to import the story to DA2 also. Yeah, I heard that. I also heard its for storyline purposes. Great so now I get to hear about the actions of my character while playing a character that I didn't get to choose. Excellent. I love it.

Don't get me wrong, I'll probably buy the game, because until another Elder Scrolls comes out I need something to play. It just won't have the same feel, and will likely feel lame like ME2 did to me.

Honestly, why even post in this thread if you weren't going to bother to read the OP? Or even learn anything about the game?

Here's something I'm confused about. People keep referring to Hawke as a Warden... He's not actually a Warden, is he? Isn't he just a regular joe who rises up to become the Champion of Kirkwall?

Yeah, he's not a Warden (at least, as far as we know). Matt Goldman, the art director, did refer to him as a Grey Warden in the podcast, but I think that was just a slip of the tongue.

Becuase there is 64 pages of shuffling through. and half of it isn't really useful, and by the time I reached page 64 there would be another 5-10 pages.... picked my info from a game mag.

I do know that I am stuck with the name Hawke. I was guessing that I might be able to choose my looks (I guess I didn't word my rant correctlly up there )

Anyways, its still not my charachter. And more then likely I'm having some mild form of Fan Boy rage right now..... now that I think about it... I play as a Male human.

Thanks for pointing out that Debankier

Everything that can be verified gets put in the very first post. No need to pay attention to anything beyond that (unless you want to).

Maybe I should have specified that "OP" means "original post" since you're new here. Sorry!

You need to remember that every single Origin had a pre-determined last name. In fact, David Gaider has already told us that Hawke is referred to as "Hawke" much less than the Warden was called "Warden".

Bad reason to waste money on a video game.

Thanks Saibh and SirOccam for pointing that out.

Bryy_Miller: I actually like the DA world. The only major thing that has me bummed is I can't be my original character, as long as they don't make it a so called 'action' RPG or whatever its called I'm sure I will enjoy the game. Just not as much as I would otherwise.

Though being called "warden" is being called what you are. Similar to dwarf, human or the like. "Hawke" on the otherhand is entirely different.

Maybe I should have seperated the points.

1: You are always a Cousland, Amell/Surana, Mahariel, Brosca, Aeducan, Tabris. If you choose an Origin, you choose a last name. No ifs, ands, or buts.

2: To me, "Warden" is a stronger identifier than "Hawke" is. A last name doesn't define who you are. I'm sure there's a "Miller" out there with every personality type. Being called "Warden" however, identifies you into a role, into a certain organization. Bonus points because the people of Thedas have a particular idea about what Wardens are like.

Red Warden hasn't even played WRPGS from the pre 2000 era!

Baby's first troll, or baby's first RPG? You get to choose!

I lol at the idea Lost Odyssey or any similar "JRPG" is an actual RPG. It's an adventure/action game. With levelling.

Not that I'm disparaging your choices, just sayin'...

Which means very little when it comes to carrying on from the first game. Yay, I get to be forced into playing a male or female version of Hawke just so they can sate the folks too lazy to read dialog and have it all voice acted for them complete with Mass Effect like choices that more than likely won't come out anything like they look like in the choice menu.

Mark my words, Bioware games will continue to get more and more streamlined and consolized to the point that they'll be unreconizable from the latest yearly interation of whatever the current hot title is. If the way Awakening turned out and how quick DA2 seems to be coming doesn't tip people off to that. I think they're in for a rude awakening down the line. Don't say y'all weren't warned at least. Maybe I missed the whole bit where consoles became the Great Satan, and console gamers were ZOMG THE ENEMY. I distinctly remember KOTOR being for console, and that was one of BioWare's greatest masterpieces.

And let me guess: you warned us. What is it with people are getting hard ons for fearing the worst even in the light of information?

What  kind of name is "Kirkwall", anyway? You might as well be called Champion of Akron, OH. Not exciting at all.

You could be non-human in Mass Effect?  That's news to me, don't recall seeing that option.
