So....has anyone gotten a look at the UK PC Gamer magazine with DA2 on the cover yet?

Yes!! I posted some info from it days ago but until more people read it and support me in claiming that the source of my info is credible, the stuff I found won't be added to the first page. The weird thing is i seem to be the only person to have read it

Well, what else in there, man!? :o

Transcribe, I say! Any news on the PC version?

Nah, the info I posted was the only real new information. There was basically 6 pages of stuff we already know haha

Bad translation ?
I find that very unlikely. Either Mr Laidlaw is holding a double speech, or the magazine deformed his words on purpose...

There isn't any double-take if you read what he said closely. The article claims no tactical view. Laidlaw never claimed there would be one. He simply said the camera would not zoom out as much as DA (which is a very vague statement), that combat on the console was different from the PC, and the PC would not have a camera that looks, and that at this point in development, a free-roam camera is seen as more important than zoom.

We don't know how much we will be allowed to zoom, and we don't know what free-roam means with regard to the camera. So as of right now I don't particularly see a contradiction.

It's just that people want to read in too much into the statement, whether as a confirmation that the camera will be identical to KoTOR or that it will be indentical to DA.

I couldn't find any mention of this on the first page: do we know how importing will work?

No clue- all thats been said on that front to my knowledge is from the GI article where they make vague references to wanting to be able to import your save across platforms. But nothing really beyond that.

Why is wilful deception more likely than a simple mistake?

Because, for a lot of people who are so into something, it's easier to go to the extreme than try to think rationally about something you don't like.

I must admit, I am not terribly excited for this game.  I do not understand why BioWare would essentially throw the first game out the window by creating an entirely new story with characters that have nothing to do with the original story.  Also, I am not thrilled with the cosmetic change with the DarkSpawn; they look kind of lame in my opinion.  The DarkSpawn in the first game had a grotesque appearance that instilled both a sense of dread, and violence.  These new DarkSpawn look silly in comparison.  It appears that BioWare thinks Dragon Age needs to follow in the same footsteps as Mass Effect, and as a result, are disregarding their previous work.  There is an old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", I think BioWare is making a mistake here, but only time will tell.

1) The story of DA is about Theadas, not your character. So while individual games may be character based, the franchise is not.

2) How exactly is it following in the same footsteps as Mass Effect?

Does anyone knows if DAO2 will have a ts or not?

Thanks for any "credible answer"!

What's a "ts"?

I think MDarwin means a toolset.

as it seems in an interview it was confirmed that the game won't have a toolset, and the top-down isometric tactical view will also be removed...  <_<

:crying:

Didn't pay attention to the interview well did you?   Okay I will go into detail about it a little more.   According to Gameinformer Magazine sources, the top view "will" be removed for CONSOLES only.   The top view had made the gameplay pretty bad for console players so they decided for a faster paced gameplay for consoles only (Think under the lines of a possible actionrpg kind of gameplay).   For PC owners however, we get to keep the original top view with better reacting NPC's than before.   So you can say there will be 2 different types of Dragon Age 2.   One that works better for console play while the other keeps to the roots (PC).

I will do my best to quote the magazine word by word for those confused by lots of information on the gameplay:

"Fans of the classic pause-and-play breed of strategic combat can stick with the PC release of Dragon Age II. As for the consoles, we played the Xbox 360 version, and can confirm that it is faster, more responsive, and more fluid than before. As soon as you press a button, something happens. As a warrior, Hawke threw down special strikes and used a new dash move to slash through darkspawn with ease. It isn't on the Dynasty Warriors side of the spectrum, but with obvious improvements to the targeting system and animations, playing Dragon Age II with a controller finally feels natural."

This is on the column titled "Two Dragon Ages" in the "Gameinformer" Magazine.

The same content, just different gameplay.

EDIT:  I may want to add this as well;

"Rather than try to mimic the PC experience on consoles, Dragon Age II has a battle system more tailored to the strengths of the PS3 and 360.  You can still issue orders and switch between your party members, but the team aims to make the action feel faster and more responsive - no more shuffling into positions as you wait for your maneuver to activate."

This information was on top of the 1st paragraph I posted.

No mods = No purchase.

Some of the most downloaded mods aren't mods at all, they're FIXES, fixing things BioWare couldn't fix themselves even with months and months of time.

And we were told about this PC game, Dragon Age, years ago. It was advertised as a PC game almost entirely, and a toolset was a big part of that. So we get one crappy expansion, a year's worth of "support" (lol), and now they're quickly just shoving the game under the carpet to make a new version that's more console-friendly.

That's why I don't buy your games anymore, BioWare.

I think he was refering to a french magazine's article not the GI issue.

I had no idea where he got the info from. But if Bioware removes top-down on the europe games, it would be odd.

I don't think the assumption is that it would be for European copies only, dude. We have an older source saying top-down would be there for PC and not consoles. And now we have a newer source saying it won't even be on PC and a Bioware dev saying that they're working on a top-down that's not really top-down.
So some people are taking this to mean that the early promise that DAII will play just like DA:O on PC is BS.

It's a very American term meaning bull s**t, which is used to say something is wrong or stupid, basically.

well, yes, I know this term, I just didn't make the relation with that expression.
So now, like Paul Klipsch used to say, how many bull**** does it worth? How many hits upon the button does it need?
the less is the best.

But the reason that there's no contradiction is that we don't really have a coherent definition of "tactical view" in the first place.

So, why they adding a sister, but not adding an option to hook up with her? Incest is very popular theme. In origins you could even bang gay-elves and dwarf-****s, and woman who could turn her into a spider or bear. What could be worse than zoophilia? Incest definitly is not..
Looks like she will be another boring sister like Imoen.

If BW is really going in the wrong direction, then can you explain me their sucess all around the world?
this thing up... Remember, its information that matters here, not nerd-rage nor nostalgia.

Sales aren't everything, otherwise we would be viewing McDonalds as the best couisne in the world, and boys bands as better than Mozart.

Could you please define "that characteristic BioWare flavor?"

DA proved that BioWare still had it in them to make games for Gen Xers who were able to fondly rediscover and enjoy the childhood touchstone of D&D via a cRPG with Baldur's Gate I & II and the NWN1 series.

I've discussed the BG series (in relation to DA) already, but I will say that NWN was very, very different from tabletop D&D*, and in addition to that, DA:O didn't even vaguely remind me of NWN gameplay.

*Did you miss all the people complaining about how different NWN was from BG, and D&D for that matter, when it came out?
