But that defeats the idea of trying. Sure, you can take it off the table, but it has to be on it first.

That suggests we can't know what the gameplay effect of a feature will be without trying it first

No. All I was saying is that it's a game of give and take. Idea vs. implimentation.

But it can't always be that way. That's the ideal, not the reality.

Before anyone posts it, yes I saw Mary Kirby's quote about Varric, and yes it's already in the list. :D

Ocky, it amazes me how you change the entire layout of the first post so much.

Well at the beginning it wasn't so important, since there wasn't much on it anyway. But as it approaches "wall o' text" status, it gets more and more difficult to scan. It feels like there should be one "true" way of organizing it, but if there is, I haven't found it yet.

New World, good.
New NPCs an old ones, good.
Story Related, good.
Choice based, morality, Good.
Romance, always good, makes it more personal.

My only pet peeve is that you play a character that exists in the game, not one of your own creation. You'll always be Hawke no matter how many times you play and always the same race... that sucks.

But I did enjoy The Witcher which was the story of one Character, and this Hawke can be male or female so that's a plus. I made the ultimate sacrifice most of the games I've played because Morrigan reminded me of Aries in Buldur's Gate 2...whinny, always looking for approval. The only difference is one was a Naive dove and the other is a total heartless b****. So being one that does the ultimate sacrifice, I'm glad they didn't continue with the Warden story but then again if the story stems from the Dark Ritual...then us who did the ultimate Sacrifice, will have meant nothing lol.... Something new, is good and even if I am unsure as to liking or not the fact that I won't play a character of my own creation.. the game looks fascinating.

I am curious what the outcome of this game will be. I loved DA:O and DA:A and the DLCs. so we shall see what it will be

You're always a Cousland everytime you play as Human Noble. I think people are getting too hung up on the last name.

Probably not needed, but another confirmation that there is no morality system in DA2: http://social.biowar...4419357#4419401

Well said.. yes I've been thinking about it and if the game is shaped by your decisions and you get to change the look of your character, then the only thing not determined by you will be the name which is the same as the last names in DAO.

SO well Said

You know, the morality system really is a Lucasarts concept. It only really started coming into play for the Jedi Knight series. The morality system in RPGs is just now growing into its teens, if you think about it. That or it was a brief fad.

Why does everything have to be so cinematic? It is not a "must" to a good RPG. I'm going even further, it is not needed at all in a good RPG. If the story and the dialogues are well written, and we have interesting characters, I don't care about camare angels, face animations etc. This is not a film.

Of course a good RPG need not be cinematic.  As has been mentioned before, it could simply be text-based.

But whether it's fair or not, "cinematic" games are popular right now.  And you know, DA:O was a cinematic game.  It had pleasing (if not stellar) graphics, face animations, and featured the use of dramatic and movie-like camera angles.  Was that a problem for you?

I expressed myself poorly, I'm sorry. I didn't mean that I don't like cinematic games at all. In fact, I'm a sucker for cinamtic games. I just fear that Bioware sacrifices too much (e.g. player generated character, more races) just to make the game as cinematic as Mass Effect.

OK, I understand you now.Posted Image

It is indeed a matter of personal taste as to what trade-offs each individual gamer will appreciate.  From what I can tell so far, DA2 isn't "giving up" too much for me.

Im somewhat excited for DA2, I am slightly concerned about the changes and the seeming dumbing down of the RPG ideals for the console problems. I also tend to find the Art Style jarring compared to DAO/DAA.

Do so many people honestly believe that those who play on a different platform than they do--or play games in a different way--are somehow "dumber" than they are?  Or do they just not care about coming off as elitist twits?

The BG series had a reputation system, which on paper should be something quite different from a measure of how good or bad you really are, but in practice it didn't work that way.

Posted ImagePosted ImageI know, it's sad.  And that post isn't even that bad.  Someone in another thread just claimed that, "If you give a casual player the ability to mash X button, he won't learn anything else, like setting tactics or combining spells."

Andar, Bryy...it's kind of amazing how people can set up social pecking orders in just about anything (in their own minds if nowhere else). These are freaking video games, for HAVING FUN, it's not Serious Business.
