Why does it take 10 years to become a champion now?

I'm sure they are wanting to expand on the "epilogue" idea of DA:O and the "real decisions" factor of your treaty quests.  With a ten year span they can evolve the game world based on your decisions in earlier section.  A pretty cool mechanic, if they do it right.  For example, let's say in DA:O you had sided with the Templars and purged the Circle.  Fast forward three years and there are NO legal mages in Ferelden, and the use of magic has been outlawed in Denerim.  This is the kind of stuff they couldn't do in DA:O because they didn't have real "chapters" in which everything moved forward.  Other than post-Lothering and post-Landsmeet, everything was just kind of suspended in time.

"Dragon Age II uses a conversation system similar to Mass Effect's, where players select paraphrased versions of the dialogue from a wheel. An icon in the middle of the wheel even illustrates the line's basic intent (like aggressive or sarcastice), so you can focus more on the interaction rather than reading and analyzing your dialogue choices."

From another post, but good info.

Seriously....EAoware...did you spend all your money on voice acting and fire your writers?

So... How is it a sequal?
No Warden?
No Morrigan ending?
No Morrigan's child?
No return of old favorite characters?
All new adventure?
Image IPB
Anyone else as dissapointed as I am?  I mean They didnt exactly put an ending on the 1st one.
As much as I LOVED the 1st one I'm not exicted about the next Image IPB

They're exploring more of the world. What makes you think stuff from 1 won't return, just because of this?

Christ, I think the game's going to suck already, and I think you people are insane.

"Hawke will be voiced"

God damnit.

Ugh. I think I'm already disappointed.  I'll wait and see, but it feels as if they are changing the game to suit the Mass Effect audence: ie all action and less story so they can rush it out the door to make a fast dollar.

On the contrary, Mass Effect has a great story.  It has a lot of action...but then, DA had lots of dungeons and fighting, too--to the point where it got repetitive in places (Deep Roads?).

Let's see...
1) Main character is always human.  Mass Effect.  Part of the depth of DA:O was the fact that there were other races and prejudice.

There are other races and prejudice in Mass Effect too, ya know.  Did you play the game?

2) Main character is already some "heroic figure" before the game begins.

Where was that stated?   I recall reading that Hawke begins as a destitute refugee.

3) Seems doubtful that any import from DA:O will lake place.  This undermines the whole in-depth story approach that was established.

I don't agree that using a fresh new character in any way undermines what I did in the first game.  Honestly, I kind of expected that we wouldn't be importing our old characters, partly because the outcomes of each person's game can be so different.  If they imported the old characters, that would simply open up a new can of worms ("Where's my love interest and why aren't they with me?  Did you remember who I picked as the monarch?  Why won't the game acknowledge the choice I made way back when?" Etc.).

Just reading the press release, it sounds as if they are trying to justify "the less is better" approach, so they can recycle Mass Effect, and maybe add a bit of content for us to pay for in the form of add ons.

Yeah, I like how they haven't added bit content for us to pay for for DA!  You have a point th--

Oh, wait...

And like so many others have already commented "What kind of a name is Hawke for a woman?"  The name so feels sexist and mysogynistic to me.

How so? I don't see that (I'm female, by the way).  It's a surname.

i happily did the ritual ^^ after all..if my "son" becomes some sort of huge dragon weeeeell..i can always ask for help to alistair to take on the bad guys..(y)

as for this...well...since i DID the ritual, and you also take part in HUGE events in DA:O & A....i was like day-dreaming of what would be going on in DA2..and then i find this...

apparently my character & company are on permanent vacation o.O most of them didn't appeared even on the expansion :(....so it makes me feel sort of empty...i had a similar feelling when i played ME2 but then again, old characters became playable and others were doind their things....and i also had my sheppard ¬¬.....

i don't know.....it just doesn't feel like a sequel..and it's way to early to start thinking about a "PRE-dragon age ORIGINS" O.O..as i said...i feel empty u.U

excuse me for my horrible english..im way better at reading than speaking

I always thought of the GodBaby as a girl. There's already the whole idea of Flemeth using daughters to keep herself alive...it would just be too good to pass up. Will Morrigan succumb to the temptation to use Flemeth's practices for herself? OMG where's the popcorn?! :)

i don't know the specific word that you can use for both sexs, i saying "son or daughter" was to long and unneceseary (or something that rimes with that o.O)...specialy because this is a da2 forum so i didn't want to say much about the first one..

i apologise if my comment sounded disrespectfull or sexist...it wasn't my intention :(

I hope they get good voice actors for male and female Hawke... Preferably not the monotone Mark Meer again. :X ..And while I wouldn't mind Jennifer Hale, I'd much rather two fresh new voices alltogether. Hell, why not have more than two possible voices? That's what I'd really like.

Great thread!

If I have any disappointments with the upcoming game, it's only that we won't be able to continue our journey from DA: O. As soon as I finished playing, I really didn't want it to be over with. Sure there's DLC and expansions, but I still want more out of the world I created. I want my team that I grew to love. Starting fresh again would just seem strange to me, especially considering that this is a sequel. I just feel that they should have given us a proper sequel so that we could rightly close the book on our DA: O characters and companions, and not leave them in the dust while we start anew. Just my 2 sense.

I'm surely not ungrateful, I'm actually very excited. I just wish we could have gotten an actual sequel to DA: O before moving on to something entirely new.

No stress, but a good gender neutral word to use for either would be "child".  :)

Ew.  After all the work I did to kill that **** the first three times.  Here's hoping it's actually Morrigan who returns and has a short dream sequence where she remembers something Flemeth told her.

Morrigan does tell you in DA:O that killing Flemeth probably doesn't actually KILL her...it just buys time for Morrigan to find a way to protect herself.

lol I actually never killed Flemeth. I gave Morrigan the Grimoire at Arl Eamon's estate, and by the time the Blight started, she never even asked. After the epilogue however, I returned to "Camp", and she asked me to kill her mother, but Flemeth's Hut, along with everywhere else, was blocked from traveling to.

NOOOOOO!

Please no. ME's wheel is cool, but it has some serious drawbacks. It was a novelty. But I'd rather have alot of dialouge than a cool looking display.

What did they say about the first game? Something like voicing the warden would have cut the dialouge in half... :(

I love how people are totally not giving the dialogue wheel a chance. Chris Priestly, David Gaider, everyone at Bioware's pretty much right.

People love to hate. Especially when they have no idea how it will actually work until they play it.
