Ugh. I think I'm already disappointed. I'll wait and see, but it feels as if they are changing the game to suit the Mass Effect audence: ie all action and less story so they can rush it out the door to make a fast dollar.
On the contrary, Mass Effect has a great story. It has a lot of action...but then, DA had lots of dungeons and fighting, too--to the point where it got repetitive in places (Deep Roads?).
Let's see...
1) Main character is always human. Mass Effect. Part of the depth of DA:O was the fact that there were other races and prejudice.
There are other races and prejudice in Mass Effect too, ya know. Did you play the game?
2) Main character is already some "heroic figure" before the game begins.
Where was that stated? I recall reading that Hawke begins as a destitute refugee.
3) Seems doubtful that any import from DA:O will lake place. This undermines the whole in-depth story approach that was established.
I don't agree that using a fresh new character in any way undermines what I did in the first game. Honestly, I kind of expected that we wouldn't be importing our old characters, partly because the outcomes of each person's game can be so different. If they imported the old characters, that would simply open up a new can of worms ("Where's my love interest and why aren't they with me? Did you remember who I picked as the monarch? Why won't the game acknowledge the choice I made way back when?" Etc.).
Just reading the press release, it sounds as if they are trying to justify "the less is better" approach, so they can recycle Mass Effect, and maybe add a bit of content for us to pay for in the form of add ons.
Yeah, I like how they haven't added bit content for us to pay for for DA! You have a point th--
Oh, wait...
And like so many others have already commented "What kind of a name is Hawke for a woman?" The name so feels sexist and mysogynistic to me.
How so? I don't see that (I'm female, by the way). It's a surname.
