Umm, what was the problem with the original healthbar? I mean, the length of the bar shows how much HP do you have left. I wonder how can that be more informative?Dynamomark wrote...

Couple of quotes:
There's also a huge change to how the party's information is displayed.
Gone are the difficult-to-see circular portraits that vaguely displayed
health information. DA2 has switched to the traditional model: in the
bottom left hand corner, there is a picture of each of your party
members and two horizontal bars for health and magic/stamina. Displayed
below the bars is the current action of the player, i.e. Attacking,
Moving, Mind Blast, etc. and a small icon of what that action looks
like.
What was wrong with the portraits in Origins? All of that information was there, at least on the PC version...maybe they're talking about the consoles? I just hope they don't muck around with the UI like in ME2 for PC- the little floating heads in the middle of the screen was incredibly stupid.
Allies aren’t the only one to receive such changes – enemies now sport a
health bar that allows you to visually see what happens to their health
with each attack you inflict on them. When you swing a sword, you’ll
immediately see the effects of that attack reflected on the meter in
white, and that’ll then deplete down to a red nub.
Again, wasn't this already there? Unless they're going to make it even more obvious and glaring....
They want to make Dragon Age more accessible, but in order to do that
some features must be sacrificed. Throughout our time with the game we
were told that none of the depth has been lost through this process,
though, and the combat will be just as rewarding for RPG veterans as it
is for newbies.
Sadly, I have rarely seen a game where it claims to become more "accessible" and not end up losing out on the depth and complexity.
I just want some damn PC gameplay at this point because all these text articles make me not care about the game. I swear I could go market this game for BioWare with all their little buzzwords: "Think like a general! Fight like a Spartan! We're amping up everything ! Giving it a shot of adrenalin! Hot rod samurai art style! More responsive combat! When you press a button something awesome happens!"

I'd have to agree, it's not very clear how exactly the displayed health information will be less vague in DA2. Also, it's not all that clear what the "meter in white" and "a red nub" are supposed to achieve. I guess we'll have to wait for some gameplay footage or screenshots to find out.

1) Wow, that's the first really banal thing I've heard about DA2. The health bars in ME2 were the worst part of that game.
2) If it doesn't change from SDCC, then it is basically the same as before.
3) I could really do without the blanket statements from gaming magazines.

I'm thinking they were referring to the console versions- at least I hope so...

We don't know what engine it runs on yet.
I would only imagine it uses a modified verson of the engine used in DA:O, the fact that the toolset is roughly the same as it was for DA:O points to this also

It is highly unlikely Hawke will be a Grey Warden, which I am thankful for. Hawke is Hawke, and not the Warden, after all, plus he/she becomes one of the most important people in Thedas', and typically Warden's do not become the most interesting except during a Blight.
I do imagine GW will be used in this, just probably not as frequently.
On a different note, we do have a confirmation that Jennifer Hale will NOT be voicing the Female Hawke, and in all likleyhood, Mark Meer will NOT voice the male Hawke.

It's in the first post. Hawke is not a Gray Warden, the story is not directly about the order anymore.Matt4045 wrote...

It would be kind of cool if one of the companions was a Grey Warden though...
Nice idea! Depending when they join up it would be interesting to get their perspective on the latest Blight too, like the fact most of the Warden's in Thedas missed it.

David Gaider
"The first time you pick a personality option, that's your dominant personality. That personality can "switch" the first time you total of any other personality exceeds that one by 1 (so if you then picked two different personality options after the first, it would switch). Each time it switches, the threshold you need to exceed the total by increases by 1... to avoid a feeling of schizophrenia (though the personalities aren't so divergent they feel like different people). So it's not quite as simple as just tracking the highest total."
I think this needs to be logged NOW.

Most of the Gaider stuff in that thread is very informative as far as how the personality system works
