Since this is a supposed to be an AAA title from Bioware, I expect the game to look good.  At the same time, I haven't seen anything but early screenshots, so I wouldn't declare that DA2 doesn't look good, either.  In fact, those who have actually seen the game at demos say it looks better than DA:O.

That may be true, but that doesn't really have to do with what I was arguing.  There are things to find fault with about Bethany's outfit, but I would never describe it as skimpy.

We do know Flemeth is a seductress, but we know nothing about Bethany except what she looks like.  She is wearing a low-cut shirt, but she is hardly scantly-clad (not to my eyes, anyway), and for that matter the shirt Mrs. Hawke is wearing is just as low-cut as Bethany's.  We don't know if either of them are shameless flirts or full-on seductresses, which is why I thought the "sexy seductress" comment was a presumptuous thing to say.

What happened in that reviewer's game won't necessarily happen in everyone's game, as per David Gaider.  It certainly wasn't confirmed that two people--no more and no less--must die.

I highly doubt it since it is a large part of the marketing. But who knows.

I forgot to mention--you must have a pretty retrograde view of woman if you think a low-cut shirt automatically implies an intent to seduce.

*sigh*
No- prior to Origins coming out people were in a tizzy when they revealed Morrigan and her outfit was just a couple scraps of cloth covering her up. People freaked, thinking all women would be similarly dressed in DAO.  Yet the writers at the time stated Morrigan's outfit was an important part of her character. That she was a seductress- which we now know to be true. Her outfit had a purpose, character wise.

A while back Mary Kirby noted that the "new" Flemeth was simply another form she could take. That while Flemeth took the form of a old hag in Origins, she has also taken on the form of seductress in the past and was doing so in DA2, hence the more revealing outfit. Thats a reason for Flemeth's new look. I don't care that some of the women's outfits in DA are revealing, its just stupid to have ALL of them be skimpy and revealing.

There are enough video games marketed to horny teenagers where the females dress in skin tight clothes or bikini "battle armor." All I'm saying is that given the limitations of DA's character models, it would be stupid to copy/paste Bethany's armor/body onto a dozen other women, lest you end up with a situation like Wynne wearing the Chasind robes. I have no problem with some women characters in the game wearing sexy clothes for the sake of sexy clothes- thats fine-  but when every female model in the game has perfect proportions and is dressed in revealing clothing, its just stupid and absurd.

Then we will just have to agree to disagree about how "skimpy" these outfits actually look.  Personally, I don't think they are--neither Bethany nor Mrs. Hawke are showing that much skin.  They ain't chainmail bikinis, that's for sure.

Regarding Flemeth, I will point out that she was described in the game (and other DA lore) as being a seductress--long before Mary Kirby made that post.

I apoligize to people who read my measage, yes i do believe that dragon age shouldn't be a porno but they're is nothing wrong with people in a game looking good. what im trying to say is that they can look seductive but has any1 ever thought it could be the armor that she is wearing? I agree with people that this might be a style like "Morrigans robes" who knows it might represent who bethony really is but it might be also just the armor. Do you think her chest in going to stick out like 1 ft, in plate armor??? i think that its just the armor not how she really is. i've noticed the difference in DAO when you like switch from morrigans robes to chasind, i dunno lol i might be high Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Ms. Hawke is the reason we go over to Mike's house after skateboarding practice.

I don't see the problem with nudity. Any idiot can see a naked man/woman within simply a few keystrokes. Whenever I play an online FPS, the game is full of stupid little kids who use foul words constantly at the top of their longs and express every vulgarity imaginable, not to mention that they are little kids and that the game is rated M. What's the point in only pretending to have "standards?"

When done tastefully and with reason, I see no problem with boobs. Personally, I don't believe the lack of full frontal has entirely due to keep it "family-friendly" (after all, you do have sex scenes, and it is rated M), but rather to keep the story dignified and adult instead of digital pornography.

Boobs =/= maturity. Sex =/= maturity.

Your logic fails because those kids yelling over their mics are doing so out of their own free will. They are not part of the developed game.

Why does this thread keep saying updated when there hasn't been any real update? Pretending to update by removing a "NEW" tag is BS in my opinion. Don't change the title until something is really added to the content please. Too bad there isn't an RSS that lets us know when this REALLY updates; that is not the thread author's fault... I am just getting sick of seeing the title say a new update when there really isn't one.

Your logic fails because your post fails to question my logic in spite of that clearly being its intent; red herring fallacy if you will. Just because those kids have their own free will, it doesn't take away from the fact that our society boasts in having standards which it does not uphold. Nudity is considered such a terrible thing in spite of the fact that a vast number of people have easy access to it and use it to indulge in their pleasures on a regular basis. Hardly any parents actually care whether or not their children play games that are clearly given the M rating seeing as how they buy these children these games in the first place.

Agreed. I stressed my eyes out looking at every line of the OP for the update.

To the OP: Don't say "updated" unless there is actually a noteworthy update. Thanks.

Agreed. I too prefer substance and wouldn't just want Bioware to rub it in our faces on the basis that it could. Then this would be a whole other game.:?

Considering he need not do this at all, you could ask a bit more politely. I know you're not trying to be rude, but this is done purely for our sake, and not for his personal enjoyment.

Hmmm...
I don't share your opinion, although I respect it. I don't know...we all have different point of views, but, why is nudity considered "pornography"? It's not the same.
We all are born naked. I'm certainly not asking for a "Hot Coffee" mode or a five minutes graphic sex scene, come on, but what's wrong with frontal nudity?
Why would the story lose its dignity?
We are a hypocrital society...and I ask again, why is it OK to kill, mutilate, decapitate and burn the enemies, in all sort of painful ways, but if there's some nudity OH MY GOD THE SKY IS FALLING, SOMEONE CALL THE POLICE.
Sigh...

I did say, "when done tastefully", and I don't mind frontal nudity when done right. :D When not done tastefully, it's blatant porn, there to cater to little boy fantasies.

I'm in agreement with Saibh here.

We don't want DA to turn into something akin to AOC where everyone runs around without their tops on and makes crude jokes all day long. I trust the DA writers on writing things tastefully though, as they already have proven. Just because a game has an M rating doesn't mean it has to embrace every aspect of what it means to have that rating.

I'm of the opinion that nudity has more impact when it is done at the right moments, sort of like crude or foul language. If we see it all the time, we'll just become desynthesised to it and it will lose its allure. It was a bit strange in a few spots in Origins to suddenly see your character "naked" (and wearing the ugly underwear if you weren't using a mod) but it usually fit more or less with the scene that was being depicted. I'm fine with it being used sparingly like that.

And anyway, aren't there lots of mods for people who want more? I know, we're not getting a new toolkit but the devs have hinted at an update to the Origins toolkit at some point in the future.
