"Executive Producer Mark Darrah. “We are amplifying the things that made
Dragon Age: Origins such a huge success while introducing a more dynamic
combat system, improving the graphics, and telling the most important
story in our world.”"

Read your own poll:
www.bioware.com/_poll/view_poll.html
It clearly shows that The NPCs, dialogs and romances are what made DA:O what it is.  Now you didn't flat out say that you dumbed it down, but when you focus your speach on combat and graphics that sends warning bells going off in my head.  Of course it doesn't help that a developer in another thread said that the dialog/npc interaction in awakening(piece of crap for dialog compared to DAO) is where you are headed for DA2.  On top of that we have a voice actor for our character which just kills making a unique character that was truly yours(you know, one of those things that made the first game GREAT!), I can't help feel that the game is going to be some mass effect fantasy game and that is definetly NOT what I want to play.

I will keep an eye on this and hope I am wrong, but in the end I get the feeling that it will be an inferior product that will strip out the real things that made the first game great and replace it with stuipid action sequences and time sinks(wonder what the DAO version of planet scanning will be) to make the game seem longer than it really is so they can say 100+ hours of game play(when its really like 15 hours).

Sorry if this sounds negative, but Bioware has a history of this type of behavior, mass effect to mass effect 2, dragon age and then awakening(even though it was an expansion, it shows the direction its headed).  Etc.

Edit:
Ok, found the thread where a developer is talking about how Awakening is
where they want to go with DA2.  Just skip to anywhere you see a bioware
response and read it.  Not very encouraging:

Wait...a dev said that dialog is going to be more like it was in Awakening? That would...suck pretty badly.

Huh? He didn't say he was getting rid of anything the OP said was good. Unless the OP prefers non-dynamic combat, that is.

The vast majority of people who purchased DAO:O aren't on this board and never will be. We're the weirdos. The small but vocal minority. Our polls don't really mean a hell of a lot in the grand scheme of things.

Can someone explain to me exactly what a "dynamic combat system" is. Seems like some random terminology that's meant to sound cool and garner interest.

I think this article sums up my feelings on Dragon Age 2 announcement.

Where the publishers are pushing the market, is not where I'm headed. I think there are more than a few people like me.

That is true, buuuut trailers never show dialog options in a game(at least not for a while), its always the cutscenes, and fighting so don't expect too much info in that regard.

Ah, one other thing I am worried about on the side. Will the game be sanitized? The first game had slavery, rape, murder, torture, drug use, sex, racial discrimination, prostitutes, etc. things rarely listed in games, yet I am afraid bioware may tone it down. I don't know why, just feel it will be more family friendly to avoid controversy. You know, like mass effect 2 was spotless when it came to controversy.

Well, if this doesn't pan out, there is the witcher 2 that I am sure will feed the need for a muture rpg that is missing.

Nobody knows- honesly I'm hoping much of this bluster from BioWare and EA today is just marketing hype to garner interest from the mainstream crowd.  Popular conjecture is that BioWare is streamlining DA2 like ME2 so instead of tactical pause and play we'll have a hack and slash.

But until we see some gameplay videos, we have no clue what BioWare is actually doing with DA2.

This is exactly my impression. I'm trying not to be too influenced by a press release that was clearly aimed at, well, the opposite of me, but they started racing away from what I thought was the best game I'd ever played almost immediately. It makes one wonder why they bothered making it in the first place if they were going to minimize the things that made it great more with each new release. I don't get it. It must be about money. Given how well recieved Origins was, that's the only explanation. That, or the demographics weren't what they wanted. It skewed too high amonst people who don't mind reading. ;)

You should go see the thread of the people crying about how Shepard socks an innocent female reporter right in the kisser.

Yep. Luckily you and your ilk are being replaced by people who can play wildly different games and judge each one based on their own merits, rather than preconcieved notions of how it 'should be.'

Cheers for the next generation that so many of you hate!

You make it sound like "the community" is one entity, and not some random collection of opinionated jackholes from all across the globe. No matter what Bioware does there will be people who disagree with their direction for the game.

The thing is, Dragon Age Origins got all kinds of attention and kudos for going against that trend. So...what happened? They spent years developing a model that people loved and then ditched it with the first expansion and the first post-release DLC.

I blame Bobby Kotick, I'm not sure how he did it but I know he did.
