I fail to understand the statement from Bioware that dragon age would be spiritual successor to Baldurs gate.
If ive understood it correctly the list so far over fears to come in DA2 is forced naming, less customization, voiced main char (FAIL in an RPG) attempts to make it more action oriented, consolization (Dumbing down/Simplification) Boring and uninteresting villains and the list goes on.
The only thing they may have in common is a good story and good dialogue in the end.
If gaming was a religion then Biowares statement would be blasphemy . Unless i misunderstood Biowares meaning when they called the dragon age games "spiritual successor"?
DA:2 as another "spiritual successor to baldurs gate"?

DA 2 will be the spiritual successor to the spiritual successor of the spiritually succeeded. Get it now?

Okay, while I admit to being rather disapointed that I won't be able to play as my charater from origins, please keep in mind that many of these fears are completely unconfirmed. Lets at least please wait until we have more details confirmed by Bioware.

i am more disappointed that we are forced to play as a human without various origins after we had the pleasure to play as many races as realistic in Ferelden

Well, the initial announcements sound a bit familiar to what we saw with Mass Effect so maybe the "spiritual successor to Mass Effect"? I don't know.

I always saw that statement as more of a marketing ploy than the reality of the game in the first place.

I agree- for me BG was all about having continuity with the PC and developing the relationships with the companions over the course of a couple games. Rather than BG, this seems more like NWN storytelling where we're going to have a new PC, new area and new story with each game.
Just a roster update for your DA 2k11, DA2k12 and so on, with each hero and story being more ACTION packed and EPIC than the last. Hell, according to the EA press release, this is the most important character and most important story EVER in the whole Dragon Age universe. How would you ever top that?
And the BioWare folks wonder why people make crazy exaggerated assertions on the forums....

Your surname was forced in DAO, too.
Human Noble: Cousland
Human Mage: Amell
Elf Mage: Surana
City Elf: Tabris
Dalish Elf: Mahariel
Dwarf Noble: Aeducan
Dwarf Commoner: Brosca
...with a ton of references to your last name if you were Dwarven Noble or Human Noble, as both surnames had an enormous hand in the plot.
Assumptions are silly, but judging a game for doing the same thing as a game you profess to love(i.e. both having forced surnames) is EXTRA SILLY.

At least that was some variance. Now you will just be goofy Hawke.

Well, if you really want "Goofy" for a first name I guess you can use it.

Only if you cling to the archaic definition of an RPG that was apparently carved into the now-unused table top.SomeoneStoleMyName wrote...
voiced main char (FAIL in an RPG)
A silent protagonist in an otherwise fully voiced game simply causes many scenes to lose all gravity; it appears silly and out of place.

@Justina: In DAO, every other character would comment on my elvish race, but literally zero people would say "I'm not gonna talk to you Knife Ear, gtfo." The man at the Gnawed Noble Tavern did not say "We Don't Serve Your Kind."
We know nothing about this new game. It could have far, far more powerful consequences and reactions from NPCs than in the first. People could remember every infamous step you made--
"You burned down that village to kill all those darkspawn. My best friend was in that villiage, so I'm not selling you anything you f***face."(ohnoes, can't buy the best bow in the game or somesuch)
"Remember eight years ago when I was a doorman at this Inn, and you were rude and didn't tip me? Well now I own this inn, and all the big fellas behind you. This is where you say 'oops'."
Anyway, there are so many possibilities for meaningful consequences to your decisions. It's possible those possibilities won't be fulfilled but news about this game is less than a day old. Now is not the time to judge.

GOOD GOD! They are calling my character by NAME! Instead of by TITLE! When there's another party member right next to me who could literally have THE SAME TITLE!

This is just marketing BS, the developers of Bioshock said Bioshock was a spiritual successor to system shock....um, no. It was NOTHING like system shock in any way, shape or form besides having shock in the name. Sort of like putting xcom in the title and saying its and x-com game when its just a bioshock mod. Sorry, got distracted. Yea, spirtual smiritual, its just PR speak which makes me even more worried when I hear it.
