My apologies if this has been mentioned before, I did a quick "Dane" search with the search engine and nothing turned up.

Anynow, the Famous Fereldens Dane and Hafter both have strong ties to wolves and werewolves. The guy being shown on all the DA2 artwork looks like this;

Werewolve arm, shaggy beard, barbarianesque demeanor. Is there a connection? (or is that just a claw like glove?)

Probably a major spoiler which Bioware don't want us figuring out just yet.

It appears to be a darkspawn claw - if you see in the larger art his hand is reaching down, a darkspawn claw which looks identical is reaching up. Also read the books and you'll know why I think it can be a darkspawn claw.

If you look at the claw from up close, you can see it's a part of the armour, as Arttis said:

I think it's a clawlike glove.

On the other hand, I had a thought that maybe as a blight survivor, he was infected with the blight disease, and has a deformed hand as a result? Just thinking out loud...

Furthering my suggestion it is a darkspawn corrupted hand - zoom in on the OP image (or find a higher resolution one) and you will see that the armour and hand are different colours. I looks as if the armour ends at the wrist and then the hand takes over. The Calling would support this corruption being possible. It would also be the impetus for the main character to become a protagonist, if they wished to remove the corruption from themselves. A pseudo-Grey Warden as it were.

Just a theory.
