I share your concerns so hopefully they add more decisions and endings inexchange for lack of origins to make up for it.

However, no origins is a minus

I liked to play as everything, but the least interesting I found vere the human background(s, I actually played mage origin only as an elf so i don't count it as human origin)Behindyounow wrote...
The lack of playing as an elf is a plus to me, but the lack of Dwarves make me sad. So they even each other out to neutral.

But that's just it. You didn't have to play as any specific race. It was your choice. Which is something I really liked. Being able to not just play a human, but an elf or dwarf. But now we’re down to just humans. I prefer to have more options, not less.

I've never played any other game with as much replay value as Dragon Origins. I played it, again and again and again, trying new races, trying new angles, always finding new things to enjoy, and that was perhaps the part I loved the most about Dragon Age. It was such a classic RPG but with so very, very much more depth. I didn't stop playing until Awakenings was released and I've not played since (but I've been thinking of uninstalling awakening and starting over again).
Anyway... what I mean to say, yes, it's a step back. A major step back. Simplifying instead of giving more depth. I loved ME and ME2 but the replay value wasn't nearly as high, because with that one character, there was only ever so much to do, you know? No origins and only the option of playing good or bad - will that even be an option here?
Ugh, ugh, ugh.
I used to be such an optimist, squealing all over the forums about every DLC and how much I loved the game, AND ME and ME2 but right now I'm not even sure I'll buy it because I'll suffer great disappointment. We'll see. Very much a shame, either way.
Hawke is a stupid name.

hope hawke's voice actors are good, otherwise this could really put a damper on the game for me.

As for classes, appearance and customization I'm pretty sure we will also have, the current character image is probably a placeholder. I'm sure we can probably still be a mage with blonde hair or something like that.

it was confirmed it is just human and nothing else
even if they make it through the story evolve it into a God or something like a Bhaalspawn, I still don't see why any other race than human shouldn't be able to do so too

In any case, no I don't see this as a step back, since we know absolutely nothing about the level of in-game flexibility or what they are trying to do with this game's story. It's still a blank slate for our purposes, though Bioware's people know more.

I can only imagine the disappointment of the ones that were looking forward to the sequel hoping to play a qnari for instance.
The choice of races is a staple of classic CRPGs, and this franchise being the "heir" to such games was one of the major advertisement points. That's why I and many others are here.

Hopefully it will be fun, I really hated the lack of VO in DA:O on main character, after playing ME2 I was unable to go back to DA for that reason.

I see it as a step towards something that I might enjoy more. I didn't really like Dragon Age that much, it was alright, but it didn't feel as deep and great for me as ME did. Of course it doesn't really give them the reason to ruin the game for it's primary fanbase.

I think that's what people are worried about, that it is becoming more like Mass Effect. I don't really mind the main character not being voiced as long as I have plenty of options.

Smells like Dragon Effect 1 to me actually. Which is not in the least interesting to me.

But to be realistic, importing your choices from the first game to the second would be WAY too complex. You would have to change the campaign for every choice you made differently, or at least every major choice. That would make, what, 25 different campaigns? But they should have at least made one ending canon and had you play the Grey Warden as if they had made those choices. Would have been easy to voice that way, and you could still give it that stupid name... Hawke... what were they thinking?

I've ran through ME1 and 2 about 15 times each....different strokes.Azriel77 wrote...
It IS a step backwards and highlights just one of the big problems with voice acting a main character. We are now are going to have less choice, smaller game, and more rail like action, like ME which sucks since it will kill the replay value.
